Geddy Lee being only 8 years older than Tom Araya does not compute

My Lol's Beyond (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 04:31 (twelve years ago)

Weirded me out too... But Geddy was born in 1959 and Araya was spawned in 1961. I mean, I wasn't in the delivery rooms or anything. But that's what Wiki says.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 04:34 (twelve years ago)

Geddy was 1953, he says without a typo.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 04:34 (twelve years ago)

You know when you look at alot of metal musicians, they often make it quite a bit older than other rock bands. Ronnie James Dio was 33 by the time Rainbow got popular in the mid 70s.

earlnash, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 04:36 (twelve years ago)

The first Rush and Slayer records were released 9 years apart (74 and 83 respectively) so it's really not that weird for Geddy Lee and Tom Araya to be 8 years apart.

Oblique Strategies, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 04:45 (twelve years ago)

Dio did a lot of things before he did metal though. He was recording doo-wop in the late '50s:

you're right of course, i guess now culture & music feels like it evolves so much more slowly in some ways, so 2004 doesn't really feel like a different world the way that 74 and 83 do, if that makes sense

My Lol's Beyond (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

It really is weird how the movement of time and eras have slowed. I can't tell if it's because I'm getting older or if it's because things really haven't changed as much from 2008-2013 as they did from 1968-1973 or 1978-1983.

But yeah, when you think how we're as far apart from Synchronicity being released as Led Zeppelin's first album was from the death of Robert Johnson, it's a bit disorienting.

i spend hours pondering this. when i was a kid i remember watching lots of documentaries with my dad celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sgt Pepper's. 1967 seemed like lifetimes ago to me back then, but Nevermind - the landmark album of my youth - just celebrated its 20th anniversary, and that shit still feels like last week to me.
