I really have no idea what will win this.

They all hold up extremely well but so do a lot of the albums they beat

Electric Wizard with Torche a solid but distant second.

Hammers, E Wiz, Torche, Converge, Sunn

torche > converge > sunn > e wiz > hammers

M&D is still awesome and I think their best album. Witchcult Today is better than Black Masses I think from nu- wizard. But really i love all of these albums yet bizarrely none of them were my #1 pick that year.

I'm with you on Witchcult. I think it's turned into my fav E Wiz, but the margin is tiny with Come My Fanatics and Dopethrone right there on it's heels.

yes thats why i said nu-wiz. I think most of us have to make the difference.

Hammers, Wizard, and Converge: albums are all albums I didn't like much by groups I really like. M&D for me.

Sunn 0))) for me. I do listen to a lot more drone than metal in general though...

the Torche album is bad, but those other albums are fantastic. strangely tempted to vote for Converge, but it may not be the best.

always sounded very alternative rock to me, which wouldn't be such a bad thing i suppose if i wasn't expecting it to be a bit more original. i persisted with it for a while too -- never came round.

anyway, ended up jumping in and casting an impulsive vote for Converge. i honestly believe it's their best since Jane Doe and i love all the releases through and through.

But that makes me sound like I'm down on that Hammers of Misfortune album more than I am, I actually love all of these.

I love E wiz but somehow they've just never topped Dopethrone for me. Voted Sunn O))) even though yeah yeah it's not proper metal, but in its way it's the most true metal record in decades

reverse Torche and Hammers of Misfortune and i'd be happy with that (even though Converge are one of my very favourite bands)

As I sorta liked Dopethrone as well as seeing Electric Wizard live (it was 12 in the afternoon, but I was still drunk, and then high. Good times) I should probably check Black Masses out, then. Didn't think people rated it that highly.

Witchcult Today is even better than Black Masses
