Just discovered this lost to the dustbin series. Hancock hosts in depths studies of various genres. Here's an ep focusing on funk, featuring Larry Graham, Bootsy and Nile Rodgers:

Here's a reggae one, with Sly & Robbie:

Some incredible clips in here.

Yeah, that was a great show. I forgot Herbie Hancock was involved. I remember there was a bass drums guitar trio. In fact I still have the book. On the back it says:

Rockschool is to be applauded - Leonard Bernstein

From memory I can tell you that Robbie Shakespeare does a little demonstration of how plucking closer to or further away from the bridge changes the sound- "Tone gettin' heavier, tone gettin' lighter."

Holy shit! I remember this show! I had forgotten about it until right now. Just one more reason why Herbie Hancock is a national treasure.

Watched this at the time like it was the most important homework in the world. There's a Gang of 4 appearance, though it's w/Sara Lee. Still, pretty cool.

Just realized that there are two series here: one in 1983 and one in 1987, the latter of which, unsurprisingly, is rife with ugly looks and sounds.

LOL in that last clip when it cuts back to Herbie, with a note pad, who acts all surprised. "Oh, hey, sorry, i was just taking notes!'
