Excuse the new thread, but I just heard the new song from the upcoming album and it's exceptional IMO. Loving this:

If he releases a whole album of this quality it could beat out Shepherd's Dog for me.

Thoughts? Anticipation?

sounds really great
one of the things about the shepherd's dog i really enjoyed was how it caught me by surprise, i was really expecting it to be a bit of a slog
i'm still hoping for another creek drank the cradle though

This sounds great. Beam seems to continue broadening his palette.

Mule, Friday, 1 February 2013 10:34 (twelve years ago)

excellent!

def. looking forward to this one

Lee626, Friday, 1 February 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)

Mordy, Wednesday, 20 February 2013 01:49 (twelve years ago)

the song? or you got a promo?

dog latin, Wednesday, 20 February 2013 01:50 (twelve years ago)

sorry, just the song. i'm hearing it tnite for the first time. this is so wild and i would've never predicted it but it makes perfect sense following kiss each other clean. also kinda reminds me of post 1976 joni in the best way

And when the world wore out their welcome they just booked up for a bag of grass
But when she cried on the grounds we were sucking all the laughing gas

Mordy, Wednesday, 20 February 2013 01:58 (twelve years ago)

I wasn't mad on all the brass sounds at first on KEOC but I grew to like them and if anything they work even better here. One track on KEOC that I slept on was Your Fake Name Is Good Enough For Me. Only realised how powerful it is the other night. Must be cos it's the last song on the album that I let it slip under the radar for so long.

It's great. Weirdly my least fave thing on it is the single(?), "Grace for Saints and Ramblers."

Simon H., Thursday, 11 April 2013 00:05 (twelve years ago)

we should change the title of this thread to Ghost On Ghost. I reckon Lover's Revolution is the best thing on here personally, but then I&W albums always seem to take months to fully etch themselves into my consciousness. I hated the last album on first listen and now I love it. This album sounds like a good consolidation of Shepherd's Dog and Kiss Each Other Clean, honed to a sheen with the edges sanded off. The songwriting's impeccable but it's kind of missing something, I think.

pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 11 April 2013 00:12 (twelve years ago)

Seen this posted in NPR's First Listen series. Haven't bothered yet. I never warmed to KEOC.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Thursday, 11 April 2013 00:35 (twelve years ago)

I had some trouble with KEOC as well. I seldom play it, apart from "Walking far from home", which I love. But this sounds pretty great on first listen. Simply stronger songs?

Mule, Thursday, 11 April 2013 13:20 (twelve years ago)

I love it, can't stop listening to the new album.

Mordy, Thursday, 11 April 2013 14:58 (twelve years ago)

KEOC really did grow on me. I ended up playing it a lot on holiday and slowly but surely it became a favourite. 'Your Fake Name Is Good Enough' is one of his best songs.

pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 11 April 2013 14:59 (twelve years ago)

"desert babbler" is an early fave for me

Mordy, Thursday, 11 April 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)

I'll go home and listen to KEOH again tonight. Maybe it'll finally open up..

Mule, Thursday, 11 April 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

ooh KEOC finally on spotify

ciderpress, Thursday, 11 April 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)

i like how stoically his lyrics stick to his formula no matter how crazy the accompanying tracks get

ciderpress, Thursday, 11 April 2013 18:43 (twelve years ago)

i love how beautiful his voice is

Mordy, Thursday, 11 April 2013 18:44 (twelve years ago)

Oh this is good...

The Pastiche Liberation Front (sonnyboy), Thursday, 11 April 2013 19:32 (twelve years ago)

as good as anything he's ever done imo. i can't stop listening to it.

Mordy, Friday, 12 April 2013 00:38 (twelve years ago)

i'm drunk + listening to this and "Sundown (Back in the Briars)" is like massaging my brain it feels so nice to listen to

Mordy, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 02:45 (twelve years ago)

yeah so this is really good. 'new mexico's no breeze' is on some really pretty jackson browne shit. and 'lovers revolution' is beyond good

ciderpress, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 19:02 (twelve years ago)

hmmm, i gave this a go last night and was reallllllly not feeling it. i'll give it another go...i mean, i like jackson browne.

tylerw, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 19:06 (twelve years ago)

Not a fan of Jackson Browne, at least the one album of his I listened to (Late for the Sky). But I'm still going to check the know I&W out this week based on my love of his first three albums.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Wednesday, 17 April 2013 20:22 (twelve years ago)

am not feeling this one at all

The Great Natterer (dandydonweiner), Thursday, 18 April 2013 22:06 (twelve years ago)

Funny how the Pfork take singles out "Lovers' Revolution" as disastrous when it's a clear fave of, at the very least, everyone on this thread.

Simon H., Friday, 19 April 2013 12:31 (twelve years ago)

it's the best song on there imho.

This is killing me tonight...soooo good...2013 turning out to be a very good vintage...

The Pastiche Liberation Front (sonnyboy), Monday, 20 May 2013 20:14 (twelve years ago)

is this better than kiss each other clean? I hated that album.

akm, Monday, 20 May 2013 21:27 (twelve years ago)

Oooh...see I liked that album esp 'Your Fake Name'...not as overtly jazzy as that one...this one has a nice LA summer evening vibe...buyer beware I suppose

Man I am totally onboard with these last two albums, the AM gold shit just works so well.

JACK SQUAT about these Charlie Nobodies (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 11 October 2013 21:28 (twelve years ago)

Never cared for I&W in the past, but this is really nice. I heard Dessert Babbler on the radio on the way home and thought it was some lost 70s AM radio classic

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Saturday, 19 October 2013 02:47 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I dunno ... I really liked The Shepherd's Dog, thought it was the perfect place for him to go after all the hushed finger-picking, but the last couple have just seemed so airless.

Geoffrey Schweppes (jaymc), Saturday, 19 October 2013 07:53 (twelve years ago)

I really want to like it, too! I'm listening to Kaputt right now, so I have nothing against the aesthetic he's going for, but it just never takes off for me.

Geoffrey Schweppes (jaymc), Saturday, 19 October 2013 07:55 (twelve years ago)

haven't listened to this for quite a few months. wasn't that impressed at first, but it's much better on revisiting.

i'm really digging "sing into my mouth"

Mordy, Friday, 24 July 2015 23:49 (ten years ago)

Me too but to my surprise all my favorites are the Ben Bridwell songs. Never spent any time with Band of Horses besides their big hit from a few years back.
