9.5, b/c there are some genuinely pretty moment on this. i am using their review of a "similar" band's last release, godspeed you..., which came after a similar - to a degree, considering the distance between their continual releases - hiatus. there are 2 drone tracks, one magnificently cathartic moments, and the rest a bunch of skillful buzz. i view this record in much the same way - that is, great, but not godly.

I enjoyed how in the review for the new Grouper album they remarked that Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill was initially underrated by them. They gave it an 8.2. The new album gets an 8.3 and the "Best New Music" title.

I'm not really bothered, to be honest. I know how I feel about it and that's ultimately what matters.

I would have given it somewhere between a 9.2 and a 9.3. Maybe a 9.4. Though a case could be made for 9.5-9.9, and also for something less than 9.1. I'd have to do the math again.

It made me laugh because both albums were recorded at the same time, and I think the reviewer was being a smartass.

All is implied to me is that Dragging... should have been rated much higher, and the session's b-sides (essentially) here are not as good as the former's hypothetical "correct" rating, but still great. So I was confused by what you meant. Regardless, I need to pick up both of those records!

Oh yeah, Dragging... is awesome and I'm totally buying the new one.

This was a good review, but again i'd like to see some discussion of HOW they released this record. Dropping it out of nowhere on their personal website is a huge difference from how most P4K-approved bands release a new album.

9.1 seems to say 'tentative canonization'.

In P4k's case, the canonization happens with EOY list anyway. Now they have a year to think about it.

the mbv release has certainly thrown a wrench into the knife's plan for poll dominance.

Nostalgists (including mbv loyalists) were always going to go with something other than Shaking the Habitual.
