Don't think it will be awarded a 10. Just because. Went with 9.0, but it could be on the plus side of 9.5 easily.

And then it will come in #2 in their year-end list.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:41 (twelve years ago)

either somewhere between 7.8 to 8.2 or 10 with a bullet.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:42 (twelve years ago)

the guy who drew straws to review this is about to have the remainder of his existence defined by every word he decides to or to not say

kelpolaris, Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:44 (twelve years ago)

he who reviews this shall be crucified, he will be viewed amongst all as both a savior and a fucking dickbag

kelpolaris, Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:45 (twelve years ago)

Ryan should write this one himself, so as to deflect the scrutiny from any other staffer.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:45 (twelve years ago)

after all, it is Groundhog Day, & what better time for idle prognostication?

& speaking of 9.3, I think I'll go w/ 9.3 (9.5)

rocky dennis horror show (Pillbox), Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:46 (twelve years ago)

9.5, b/c there are some genuinely pretty moment on this. i am using their review of a "similar" band's last release, godspeed you..., which came after a similar - to a degree, considering the distance between their continual releases - hiatus. there are 2 drone tracks, one magnificently cathartic moments, and the rest a bunch of skillful buzz. i view this record in much the same way - that is, great, but not godly.

kelpolaris, Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:48 (twelve years ago)

what the fuck is this even

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:50 (twelve years ago)

:C (crüt), Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:52 (twelve years ago)

I'll be very surprised if this gets less than a 9.0

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:55 (twelve years ago)

I hedged my bets and said 7.5 because if this is bad that is the lowest score they could bring myself to give it. NB I haven't heard it yet

jaymc, Sunday, 3 February 2013 06:57 (twelve years ago)

And then it will come in #2 in their year-end list.

new records from The Knife & Daft Punk out this year, tho, so it might have some competition for that slot!

rocky dennis horror show (Pillbox), Sunday, 3 February 2013 07:31 (twelve years ago)

Control-F + "403.6" = Not found

Maria Tesla Pizzeria, Sunday, 3 February 2013 14:04 (twelve years ago)

Ryan should write this one himself, so as to deflect the scrutiny from any other staffer.

And it should be written in the style of a Pitchfork review from 96.

MarkoP, Sunday, 3 February 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

i think they will give it 7.1

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Sunday, 3 February 2013 15:45 (twelve years ago)

I'm predicting a one sentence review

乒乓, Sunday, 3 February 2013 15:47 (twelve years ago)

ryan schreiber take me back to 2003

乒乓, Sunday, 3 February 2013 15:47 (twelve years ago)

I reckon 8.7 but this is probably the most trivial post I'll ever make

imago, Sunday, 3 February 2013 15:47 (twelve years ago)

Maybe they wont review it for 22 years

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Monday, 4 February 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

I was actually very surprised they didn't churn out a review for this morning.

Evan, Monday, 4 February 2013 14:14 (twelve years ago)

They'll have it out i "2 or 3 days".

MarkoP, Monday, 4 February 2013 14:26 (twelve years ago)

I enjoyed how in the review for the new Grouper album they remarked that Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill was initially underrated by them. They gave it an 8.2. The new album gets an 8.3 and the "Best New Music" title.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Monday, 4 February 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)

I'm not really bothered, to be honest. I know how I feel about it and that's ultimately what matters.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Monday, 4 February 2013 15:47 (twelve years ago)

Yeah but they aren't saying this new one is as good as that one. What do you mean?

Turrican- I'm certainly not bothered by it either.

Evan, Monday, 4 February 2013 16:07 (twelve years ago)

BTW I'm going to write in a 9.7 prediction just for fun.

Evan, Monday, 4 February 2013 16:11 (twelve years ago)

8.9

rocky dennis horror show (Pillbox), Monday, 4 February 2013 18:30 (twelve years ago)

9.1

Richardson wrote it (and did a fine job). http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/17726-mbv/

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 06:17 (twelve years ago)

good review, though i don't understand why he didn't give it a 10. where are the minuses?

nostormo, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 10:21 (twelve years ago)

I would have given it somewhere between a 9.2 and a 9.3. Maybe a 9.4. Though a case could be made for 9.5-9.9, and also for something less than 9.1. I'd have to do the math again.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 12:56 (twelve years ago)

9.1 sounds about right to me.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 12:57 (twelve years ago)

I don't know, I crunched the numbers a couple of more times and I kept coming up with 9.3. What was your methodology?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)

Listening to the record.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:05 (twelve years ago)

I don't know why you didn't come up with 9.3 then. It's all there.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:07 (twelve years ago)

9.36721996578

nostormo, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:16 (twelve years ago)

Its a flawless work of art and the best album I've heard in years. 7.5.

you're going home in a crispy ambulance (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:32 (twelve years ago)

9.36721996578

OTM. This is what I got, too.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:46 (twelve years ago)

it's a piece of useless garbage. 10.0

nostormo, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 13:54 (twelve years ago)

Shit I didn't carry the 6...

Evan, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 14:11 (twelve years ago)

Yeah but they aren't saying this new one is as good as that one. What do you mean?

It made me laugh because both albums were recorded at the same time, and I think the reviewer was being a smartass.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 14:32 (twelve years ago)

All is implied to me is that Dragging... should have been rated much higher, and the session's b-sides (essentially) here are not as good as the former's hypothetical "correct" rating, but still great. So I was confused by what you meant. Regardless, I need to pick up both of those records!

Evan, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

Oh yeah, Dragging... is awesome and I'm totally buying the new one.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

This was a good review, but again i'd like to see some discussion of HOW they released this record. Dropping it out of nowhere on their personal website is a huge difference from how most P4K-approved bands release a new album.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

9.1 seems to say 'tentative canonization'.

jim, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 20:11 (twelve years ago)

In P4k's case, the canonization happens with EOY list anyway. Now they have a year to think about it.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:03 (twelve years ago)

the mbv release has certainly thrown a wrench into the knife's plan for poll dominance.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:04 (twelve years ago)

Nostalgists (including mbv loyalists) were always going to go with something other than Shaking the Habitual.
