There's always Bicycle who get extra cred for riding from show to show while on tour towing their equipment in trailers. But I think their music is pretty granola jam band related stuff.

What is bike punk? I've actually seen both of those bands. The only think I can think of that they have in common is that both probably sell patches that go well on canvas messenger bags. Is that what bike punk is? Submission Hold was really awful -- they kept ranting about Canadian politics! (which obviously nobody cares about).

I bet they're all rabidly anti-car.

Red Monkey was definitely traveling around in a van when I saw them. Anyway, they were an awesome band.

it's a so called sub genre of punk that references bikes and is political. Red Monkey has a record called 'difficult is easy' which is all about riding bikes. i guess it's more of a life style, kinda like more mature, less straight edge, straight edgers (all though lots of 'post-hardcore' straight edge kids are bike punks)

Search:
-Palatka (incredible Floridian band from the mid-nineties. Members went on to True North and one of the members also writes Scenery 'zine)
-Anton Bordman (crazy bass n' drums duo from Providence who had plans to do a tour on bikes, though I'm not sure if it ever saw actuality)

Destroy:
-Any boring crusty band (Global Chaos, anyone?)

I even forgot the most obvious--the wonderful This Bike Is A Pipebomb. Add some folky elements (acoustic guitars, harmonica) and are very poppy, but great political and social lyrics and catchy, dancy melodies.

i never knew palatka was bike punk. they are so wicked fast though. props to the 98 assuck tour! (i think they were on that but i can't remember)

Palatka and Asshole Parade actually made Florida seem like the place to be at some point in history, which I find quite an acheivement. Asshole Parade is one of the most amazing bands I've ever seen -- they looked like a bunch of typical Florida Abercrombie boys (the singer was wearing a red backwards cap!) and were playing with some of the most expensive equipment known to emoviolence but they were just so ferocious and incredible.

I don't think Palatka explicitly mentioned bikes in their songs, but I'd consider them part of the same scene. Mike from that band has written lots of stuff about bikes in his 'zine, Scenery.

And yes, Asshole Parade are so goddamn intense--hardcore the way it should be. (Their split with Palatka, coincidentally, is amazing.)
