Cant choose between either. Both fabulous pieces of music that is very different to what they got known for later on. Both are great pieces of experimental rock. Can you choose between them? I cant.

"Ruckzuck" is more like Kraftwerk's later work than anything else they'd recorded at the time - that bassline is very "Autobahn"

I was so pleased when I got the record store day 7" of ultima thule.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 15:05 (twelve years ago)

I like both, but it has to be 'Ruckzuck' for me. Easily the most accessible thing on Kraftwerk 1, and one of the best of their pre-Autobahn tracks, if not the best.

Tom I hope you give Ultima Thule a good listen

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 15:10 (twelve years ago)

It's funny how the music press gave TD a hard time in the 70s yet embraced Kraftwerk. Why was that?

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 15:11 (twelve years ago)

Tom have you heard the 1st TD album Electronic Meditation ?

Electronic Meditation, Tangerine Dream's debut album, features the lineup of Edgar Froese, Conrad Schnitzler, and Klaus Schulze (his only album with Tangerine Dream). The album is not without its flaws, but it's strong in many ways and shows abundant promise. Wildly experimental timbres, passages, and textures dominate this sound world. Bringing a rock & roll effort to a decidedly avant-garde sound, the album manages to be very accessible and hard to dislike. Of those who were working at the same time, Electronic Meditation is most similar to the music of Pink Floyd and Amon Düül.

Mark G, Wednesday, 13 February 2013 01:28 (twelve years ago)

how many voters even watched the TD vid?

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Wednesday, 13 February 2013 01:29 (twelve years ago)

I didn't, but i did go to Spotify to hear the specific TD track.

(I think I said that already, if so dmm)

Mark G, Wednesday, 13 February 2013 09:12 (twelve years ago)

i watched the TD vid, cos i didn't know it. didn't really think it was up to much, tbh.

massaman gai, Wednesday, 13 February 2013 09:27 (twelve years ago)

I watched it - I hadn't heard it before and I was surprised TD ever sounded like that* but Ruckzuck is a ~great moment~ so I'm afraid there was no competition for me

(* my hazy memory was that if you work backwards from Phaedra to Alpha Centauri, which is the earliest I've heard, it gets more abstract and experimental and noisy, and Conrad Schnitzler is in the band circa Ultima Thule, right? So I was expecting it to sound like Kluster. Apparently I want "Electronic Meditation" for that, which is the one early 70s TD album I haven't heard.)
