Three Lashes with a Wet Noodle: The Wimp-Rock Top 40

Ranking on this list… , has to do with degree of wimpiness balanced by the degree to which such insufferables have been in our ears (and faces) of late.

Asked chuck if he knew anything of that steve parker microsite (he hadnt) and maybe someone here can illuminate us but I did come across this bizarre list. Dunno when its from but im guessing early-mid 90s. Dunno the context of it at all.

Some really good lists on http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/steveparker/index.htm (like best stax songs/motown songs/sun records songs " Musicmakers Critics Mistakenly Ignore" and more

but choose the wimpiest artist here

It's from the New Book Of Rock Lists, 1994, by Dave Marsh and James Bernard. Many of the lists -- this among them -- are updated from the 1981 edition, and there's also a slew of additional lists.

Many of the lists have commentary, like the disappointing debuts one. The 1981 edition had Led Zeppelin in that list and said, "After all the hype, what did we get? Recycled Jeff Beck Group."

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 00:07 (twelve years ago)

IIRC, the artists with stars next to them were docked wimpiness points for being proud of it? Morrissey might win anyway!

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 00:18 (twelve years ago)

Tbh, though, I'm not even really sure what 'wimpiness' means here. I sort of get it in the case of a band like Bon Jovi that was marketed as a heavy rock band but were pretty soft much of the time. Seems like a bizarre criticism of Sade or 10 000 Maniacs though.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 00:20 (twelve years ago)

is rocklistmusic.co.uk just the new source material for dozens of boring ilm poll threads?
