What do you think of The Band's Northern Lights - Southern Cross?

I am a big fan of albums that came out when New Wave was happening by artists that had no idea how to incorporate synthesizers into their palette but felt compelled to sound like the current style. Most of the fun ones are from metal acts but this is a truly weird little album. The Band sort of defined that ratchety old timey Americana thing and then on this, it's all synths, brass and disco instruments but still with the old timey approach. And it works cuz the songs are good. There's no This Wheels On Fire but for the most part, solid tunes with the same themes The Band always portrayed. I heard it the 1st time this morning and thought it was great.

it's pretty good -- almost wish they'd taken even more of a disco/synth turn. i love that mystery train from moondog matinee. robertson's songwriting just isn't as inspired, but it's a fairly enjoyable record. better than cahoots, i'd say.

'Arcadian Driftwood' is one of their best...Levon's vocal is just beautiful...
