I think people are going to vote for the last option as Overpowered is so loved on here. I went for Statues which I only got round to hearing last year which almost perfect (The Only Ones!). Tight Sweater and Things To Make and Do are patchy but have some great moments, never heard the second album. Really wish she/they would make another album.

I Am Not A Doctor, although the words Do You Like My Tight Sweater? sometimes appear in my head for no reason

I Am Not a Doctor has so much depth than the rest of their records, it's ridiculous. i would pick it up as one of the greatest production jobs of the 90s. the richness and attention to detail are staggering. i also love roisin's chamaleon-like approach to vocals, she inhabits a completely different persona in almost every song.

i will check it out based on this ^^^ thanks.

but i have to go with solo based on what i do know.

The vocal performance on "mother" is my favourite of all-time.

OutdoorFish, Monday, 18 February 2013 02:44 (twelve years ago)

I think of Moloko as more of a singles band. The peaks from "Fun for Me" to "Pure Pleasure Seeker" were indeed high, but there's an awful lot of stylistic experimentation that has aged badly or was just a bad idea in the first place on most the albums. I probably need to listen to them all again.

Roisin's best work to date, IMO, is Ruby Blue. Roisin's always in good form, but picking Herbert for production duties was a stroke.

Apropos of tight sweaters: http://www.marcmellits.com/media/pix/sweater.jpg
NY post-* composition, but probably still holds up better than the filler on Do You Like My Tight Sweater. I'm drunk.

Sanpaku, Monday, 18 February 2013 04:00 (twelve years ago)

That's not a sweater.

I guess you guys know nothing about moloko

OutdoorFish, Thursday, 21 February 2013 21:07 (twelve years ago)

I only really know the first album and TTMAD, plus the singles compilation (which I would vote for were it an option)

OutdoorFish, Thursday, 21 February 2013 21:24 (twelve years ago)

yes, yes I did

ignoring the solo róisín option b/c that makes it unfair and voting statues, which is pretty perfectly realised ibiza dance-pop - absolutely fantastic arrangements, the STRINGS are just sumptuous

tight sweater is fun, loved it at the time and several of its moments hold up but it's a bit wacky in retrospect
doctor - didn't even enjoy then, a bit too obtuse and hook-shy
things to make & do - the second best, just a riot of invention at every turn and a lot more confident in its kookiness than the previous two

lex pretend, Thursday, 21 February 2013 22:03 (twelve years ago)

Only qualm i have about statues is the bass. Pretty weedy, ain't it?

I disagree.

OutdoorFish, Friday, 22 February 2013 15:50 (twelve years ago)

five years pass...

I am not a doctor is my fave. The debut was weird in a g funk gone psych way which I liked but it’s a bit uneven and some of the drum n bass felt tacked on whereas it’s perfected on I am not a doctor. I would draw a comparison to lamb but with way more humour and pathos. Things to make and do is just a solid pop record and statutes is unfuckwithable really. That’s my 2nd
