i like this album
― max, Monday, 18 February 2013 20:48 (twelve years ago)
I like it too. Nothing as good as The Fall but I think the rest will grow in time.
― Kitchen Person, Monday, 18 February 2013 20:51 (twelve years ago)
Need to hear this - how does it compare to other Robin Hannibal projects like Parallel Dance Ensemble/Quadron/etc?
― etc, Monday, 18 February 2013 22:52 (twelve years ago)
do you guys have promos or is this available for us plebs to hear somewhere?
― monotony, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 00:10 (twelve years ago)
It's been out there since early January, maybe even earlier than that. I was surprised the other day to find out it's not out until March.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 00:14 (twelve years ago)
Wow, completely missed that leak. Will check it later tonight.

― lex pretend, Thursday, 28 February 2013 00:05 (twelve years ago)
oh stfu this singer is fantastic
― flopson, Thursday, 28 February 2013 01:01 (twelve years ago)
easily by far the best thing about them
― flopson, Thursday, 28 February 2013 01:02 (twelve years ago)
what is wrong with the singer???
― just sayin, Thursday, 28 February 2013 07:21 (twelve years ago)
nothing's especially bad though that kind of milquetoast dude voice never really connects with me, but he's just way inferior to the quadron girl
― lex pretend, Thursday, 28 February 2013 10:21 (twelve years ago)
i love the hemsworth remix of open. guy's voice is great. the barest trace.
― plax (ico), Thursday, 28 February 2013 13:55 (twelve years ago)
also the stilllife remix - https://soundcloud.com/djstilllife/rhye-open-dj-still-life-re-1

All last year, they were keeping their identities secret. When they disclosed them a few months ago that Robin Hannibal was behind it, I went "Duh! OF COURSE he's behind this!" I love it, naturally.
Dude can't do any wrong, imo.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 23:25 (twelve years ago)
I'll take this opportunity again to recommend:
Owusu & HannibalNon+Parallel Dance EnsembleQuadronBoom Clap Bachelors
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 23:26 (twelve years ago)
Also, his solo album.
are those his other groups?
― in a chef-driven ambulance (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 6 March 2013 00:09 (twelve years ago)
Yeah.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 00:11 (twelve years ago)
Living with Owusu and Hannibal was greatCoco can do no wrongwouldn't have discovered Boom Clap Bachelors if not for the Kendrick sample but that was also rewarding if a little more inaccessible.
What about the other two?
― tsrobodo, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 00:16 (twelve years ago)
He has a few albums under the name Milosh, I used to use both those albums to fall asleep to back in my college days.http://open.spotify.com/artist/4KRGjXEJ1yed7F3ALFOAEO

I really like his voice.
― Harlem vs Alabama (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Wednesday, 6 March 2013 00:19 (twelve years ago)
me too!
^^this is hilarious in retrospect "that kind of milquetoast dude voice" that fools everyone into thinking it's a woman, get so sick of that
― in a chef-driven ambulance (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 6 March 2013 00:21 (twelve years ago)
Milosh is the singer in Rhye. Robin Hannibal is the producer/musician.
Parallel Dance Ensemble is Robin and singer named Coco. Quadron is Robin and singer named Coco. The Cocos are not the same. Parallel Dance Ensemble is a little bit more club-friendly, early electro-funk inspired. Quadron is a little bit more removed, headphone music.
Non+ is probably my least favorite of his projects, but I don't not like it. It's just kind of ponderous electronics.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 00:22 (twelve years ago)
Had no idea the Rhye vocalist was Milosh. Vocals are improved almost beyond recognition from his III album.
Ah. That seems unnecessarily confusing but thanks for clarifying.Either way this Coco can do no wrong.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfZtuuJyA4U
hmmm electro funk I can do but Non+ lost me at ponderous.
― tsrobodo, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 00:34 (twelve years ago)
I was totally misremembering Non+ (confusing them with something else, I guess?). They're fonkay.

The other Coco (Coco Solid, from PDE) can't really do any wrong either - one of her other bands, Badd Energy, have an album coming out on Flying Nun this month, and her solo stuff covers pretty wide ground ... I like the vaguely Propaganda vibes to something like "Architecture":

― r|t|c, Monday, 25 March 2013 12:57 (twelve years ago)
Agreed but tbh for a sec if it felt like mbv sounds I'd consider sourcing a better form of lubricant. I guess amyl might make the whole exercise a bit "To Here Knows When" though.
My favourite piece of that article was the simplicity of "They will realize that you are as calculated as you are."

i fundamentally disagree with the pretext of this blog post because music is a handy stylistic cue and the more overtly it signifies the more explicitly it directs. which is convenient.

― J0rdan S., Saturday, 27 January 2018 03:40 (seven years ago)
this album didn't stand out to me the first few times i listened to it. but it's really growing on me. the instrumentation is more live and pronounced on this album & it kinda reminded me of what i wanted the last jamie woon record to be... a kind of muted neo-soul. this is warm and well produced, a little aqueous in an embrya way maybe. idk how memorable the songwriting will be in the long run (i struggled w/ this w/ the last record) but it's very very nice to listen to. and "please" is as good as any of the big songs from the last record imo.
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 27 January 2018 03:52 (seven years ago)
The last Rhye album just made me want to listen to Quadron but these new songs are gorgeous in their own right.
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Saturday, 27 January 2018 04:25 (seven years ago)
apparently robin left the band before the release of the last album which i had no idea about until very recently. this one was milosh and various collaborators.
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 27 January 2018 05:38 (seven years ago)
Weird, I didn't know anything about that either. Hopefully that means he has some spare time to make another Quadron album. Avalanche is a masterpiece.

had not heard the but spotted the new one in "new releases" on Spotify and it's lovely imo
― she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Saturday, 3 February 2018 13:44 (seven years ago)
Checking out his old Milosh albums on Spotify today and it's pleasant work listening. Kind of like old Telefon Tel Aviv-style idm with vocals, not quite as lush as that but better than the TTA records that actually had vocals.
The first one, with more lo-fi home recordings of bottles as percussion etc, is maybe the most distinctive?
― change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 17:53 (seven years ago)
yeah good comp. I really like a lot of the milosh stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUgqcYzmNs0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AICdLxRRG94not a lot of variety in his vox throughout his discography is my main gripe. he overuses the fade-in mmmmmmmmmmmmms and ooooooooooooos too much.
― they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Tuesday, 8 May 2018 18:13 (seven years ago)
I also learned that he was a jazz drummer in college and played drums on the new record, so I like that obv.
It was this interview, which is good: https://player.fm/series/no-effects-with-jesse-cohen-1537939/ep-103-rhye
He also claims that the first Rhye record sold a million copies worldwide, which seems nuts?
