reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 22 February 2013 04:18 (twelve years ago)

i'll just throw spiritualized out there, they had two or three good albums to spectrum's .... zero?

are we counting everything sonic though? because i love the EAR albs to death.

the late great, Friday, 22 February 2013 07:27 (twelve years ago)

Ach, I quite like Spectrum, and latterday Spiritualized are terribly boring, but their highs were so much higher, really.

emil.y, Friday, 22 February 2013 18:49 (twelve years ago)

surprised this hasn't been done...?

^this, basically

brimstead, Friday, 22 February 2013 18:51 (twelve years ago)

yeah Sonic has had the more interesting career in some ways, but nothing that really touches Spiritualized's best records

Donkamole Marvin (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 22 February 2013 19:30 (twelve years ago)

can't believe this hasn't been done either

definitely would be interested in including all of kember's stuff in this showdown, not just spectrum proper

lazer guided melodies on vinyl is divine but overall i have to go with sonic

reggie (qualmsley), Monday, 25 February 2013 01:40 (twelve years ago)

Soul Kiss/Highs Lows vs Lazer/LAGWAFIS is an even match imo, throw in the EAR stuff and I go with Kember.

sleeve, Monday, 25 February 2013 02:37 (twelve years ago)

i love the first spectrum (as group) alb, esp the cd version that came w/ a oil bubble sleeve

Ward Fowler, Monday, 25 February 2013 08:03 (twelve years ago)

what's a good bit of spiritualized to start with? i remember them from mix cds people used to make in 6th form stuff, but this was always coming from my friends who liked ocean colour scene, gomez and kula shaker and seeing glastonbury footage. i probably haven't heard the good stuff?

Crackle Box, Monday, 25 February 2013 15:43 (twelve years ago)

goddamn should have proof read that, and shouldn't post in nano second alt-tabbing at work, sorry!

Crackle Box, Monday, 25 February 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

start with lazer guided melodies

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:01 (twelve years ago)

so am I the only Spacemen3/Spectrum/E.A.R. fan here who never liked Spiritualized? I always found them so boring compared to what sonic was doing.

wk, Tuesday, 26 February 2013 03:34 (twelve years ago)

not necessarily. i like 2 or 3 spz songs but they largely annoy me

rave revue (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 February 2013 03:56 (twelve years ago)

I had a serious obsession with Spiritualized leading up to LAGWAFIS, culminating with driving to Detroit to see them (Dandy Warhols opened and dedicated the junky song to jason lol). My interest waned with each subsequent release, but I always caught their shows when I got the chance and they were usually excellent. I've never seen Spectrum and the one time I saw Sonic do an EAR set at a Flaming Lips mini festival thing, the set was cut short (something about gear detained in customs...)

I rarely put on Spiritualized records but I listen to Spectrum all the time lately. Just picked up an lp reissue of Soul Kiss.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 26 February 2013 06:40 (twelve years ago)

I saw him do the speak & spell thing in the '90s which was pretty cool. then more recently I saw him I think billed as Spectrum which was great until MGMT came onstage with him and did a cover of Mongoloid lol.

:D

acid sierra (electricsound), Friday, 1 March 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

Could the results be any more fitting?

For the record, I'd have given half a vote to each.

Matt M., Friday, 1 March 2013 00:17 (twelve years ago)

that's perfect

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 1 March 2013 01:29 (twelve years ago)

sleeve, Friday, 1 March 2013 01:32 (twelve years ago)

hahahaha wow

wk, Friday, 1 March 2013 01:52 (twelve years ago)

should've included the darkside

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 1 March 2013 23:07 (twelve years ago)

i didn't vote, so Spectrum is the winner
