either "The Mask" or "How Many Mics." Shit, I haven't heard this in years.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 1 March 2013 21:08 (twelve years ago)

"How Many Mics" no question

a phenomenological description of The Eagles (Noodle Vague), Friday, 1 March 2013 21:16 (twelve years ago)

major soft spot for "zealots", might go with that

This is called money bags. (zachlyon), Friday, 1 March 2013 21:33 (twelve years ago)

Family Business is my favorite

fugees - fu gee la

Harlem vs Alabama (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 1 March 2013 23:58 (twelve years ago)

Easily "How Many Mics." But "The Beast" is kind of a sleeper.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 March 2013 17:01 (twelve years ago)

plax (ico), Sunday, 3 March 2013 17:01 (twelve years ago)

poll that whitey music pfunkboy (darraghmac), Monday, 4 March 2013 01:50 (twelve years ago)

cowboys

maybe i don't "do" the "harlem shake" —bennett braauer (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 4 March 2013 02:01 (twelve years ago)

This album is so great. Will probably have to go for Fu-gee-la but it could easily be The Beast, The Score or Cowboys. No Woman No Cry is the only song I might skip.

Some days I think I might actually like this album more than the Lauryn Hill one.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 4 March 2013 02:09 (twelve years ago)

i always like wyclef's 'carnival' best tho for whatever reason

When this record came out my mom wouldn't let me buy it because it had a parental advisory so I went and bought it with my dad.

kendrick delmar - good kid, f.U.C.k. you (The Reverend), Monday, 4 March 2013 04:05 (twelve years ago)

the score/the mask/cowboys is such a great little run.

plax (ico), Monday, 4 March 2013 16:15 (twelve years ago)

"Cowboys" was the first song I heard from this, on a rap radio show, which made the Biggie verse even stronger.

your fretless ways (Eazy), Monday, 4 March 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)

listening to this album after not hearing it for years i had forgotten how fucking stoned the production is, the loose way that voices loop in and out of each other, interrupt each other. everything eliding at these sweet spots. nothing really sharply delineated but instead accumulating and dispersing. so melodic.

plax (ico), Monday, 4 March 2013 16:30 (twelve years ago)

the sound of the beast is so awesomely grinding and insistent

Hunt3r, Monday, 4 March 2013 16:32 (twelve years ago)

yeah but even the beast is full of slippery surfaces.

plax (ico), Monday, 4 March 2013 16:33 (twelve years ago)

i thought way more people would be into talking about this here. this album is so good. some current that runs through everything.

plax (ico), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 01:58 (twelve years ago)

"ready or not" is like top 10 of all time for me

lex pretend, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 09:48 (twelve years ago)

fugeela is the best obv but tempted to vote for zealots because of the flamingos sample and pras' verse

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 16:48 (twelve years ago)

i was heavy into the carnival my freshman year of college. listening to it now and it's funny how much of it i have no memory of at all but there's some good stuff on here too

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:10 (twelve years ago)

Carnival needs a poll

Harlem vs Alabama (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:12 (twelve years ago)

oh man I forgot about "Zealots"

I feel like the dope as fuck version of "Killing Me Softly" (and if you didn't bump that shit a million times in 96, gtfo) gets short shrift here but it's hard to vote for because it's such an obvious outlier.

kendrick delmar - good kid, f.U.C.k. you (The Reverend), Thursday, 7 March 2013 07:14 (twelve years ago)

"and if you didn't bump that shit a million times in 96, gtfo"

OTM

Harlem vs Alabama (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 7 March 2013 07:23 (twelve years ago)

omg when i heard this song for the first time i thought that there had and never could be anyone w a voice as beautiful as lauryn hill. my sister bought the single and then would never let me play it.

plax (ico), Thursday, 7 March 2013 10:30 (twelve years ago)

0 for "The Mask"!

Also presently have the "Zealots" line stuck in my head:
"And while you're munchin' at your luncheon I'll be plannin' your assasination"

two years pass...

halfway through first listen and damn, the chinese restaurant skit at the end of "The Beast" is racist as fuck. could never get away with that these days. also, wow, pras really is as bad a rapper as everyone says he is. hahaha trying their damndest to make "i only have eyes for you" by the flamingos a sampleable song but that's just trying too hard.

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 16:58 (eight years ago)

I don't think Pras is a bad rapper, but he's such a third wheel on this album that it's painful. Missing on a bunch of tracks, no verbal interplay with the other members, and always tacked on last.

JRN, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 21:53 (eight years ago)

naw, "Zealots" is the jam

Hey (Extended Mix), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 21:58 (eight years ago)

like 2/3 of this album is whatever tho

Hey (Extended Mix), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 21:58 (eight years ago)

Family Business is my favorite Fugges deep album cut

Spottie, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:00 (eight years ago)

really xp? i think this is p close to a perfect album. Cowboys is the only song I don't really care for.

Spottie, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:04 (eight years ago)

and it's still good

Spottie, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:05 (eight years ago)

Love "How Many Mics"/"Ready or Not"/"Zealots"/"Fu-Gee-La"/"Killing Me Softly", "Cowboys" is cool, could do without the rest. Mind you I haven't listened to it in its entirety in a long time. A lot of it is more drab than you'd expect iirc. I prefer Wyclef and Lauryn's solo debuts.

Hey (Extended Mix), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:09 (eight years ago)

one year passes...

'Ready or Not'

This album is still great, especially considering that pretty much everyone involved with the creation of it either went nuts or became a joke.
