I love how "Don't Worry Baby" is all about car racing, and yet so not about car racing....

Lee626, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 22:08 (twelve years ago)

i have no idea what rits is, but i'm pretty sure don't worry baby is the winner.

i love how racing in the street is all about faded dreams and wasted love, but really it's just about car racing

I like "Racing in the Street" more than most Springsteen songs, but "Don't Worry Baby" achieves its grandeur effortlessly and unselfconsciously (although probably somewhat self-consciously in the context of 1964)...oh, forget all that--it's just the better song, I think.

Bryan Ferry's "Don't Worry Baby."

just stumbled on don't worry baby after not really listening to it closely for years and that minimalist little guitar break really jumped out as brilliant to me
but I may be just being a weirdo

brio, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 18:05 (twelve years ago)

yeahhhh, there could've been a kind of grandiose sax solo there in the break but the stuttery guitar thing heightens the tension, I think. is it carl playing that or a session bro?
these are both pretty great songs, but don't worry baby for me.

btw listening to the wilson phillips version of don't worry baby right now

tylerw, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 18:13 (twelve years ago)

it's pretty good

ok good I'm not alone noticing that then? i was worried it was aspbergersy to notice, it's such a simple little thing

the lushness of all the harmonies around that little break really make it pop out though

brio, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 18:16 (twelve years ago)

this is kind of nice too!

racing in the street is gorgeous in its melancholy joy but you're still stuck in a sad place...don't worry baby is so effortless and Brian's high notes hit the fucking SUN and everything is just so perfect in that song, there's nothing bad or sad it's just beautiful.
