I know. We're music lovers, not gym rats. But hey, I happen to love to run and do some weight training (I'm not a meat head or a beefcake, though, so don't worry!).
I usually make my comps 1.5 hrs long, because that is the max I work out for. I only listen to music when weight training, not while running, though.
Here are a few tried and true ones based on the intensity levels of my workout regime/set. I throw out the whole "art of making a compilation" when it comes to these, because they operate in another world with different rules.
Hip hop/rap:
The Pharcyde - Somethin' that Means Somethin'
Schoolboy Q - Sacrilegious
Schoolboy Q - Nightmare on Figg St.
Big K.R.I.T. - I Ain't Shit
Big K.R.I.T. - Country Shit
Danger Doom - Crosshairs
Joey Bada$$ - Waves
Cadence Weapon - Conditioning
MF Doom - Ballskin
Joey Bada$$ - Survival Tactics
Notorious B.I.G. - Notorious Thugs
Deltron 3030 - Madness
Doom - The Unexpected
Busta Rhymes - Gimme Some More
El B - Ghost Rider
King Geedorah - Fine Print
Joey Bada$$ - Righteous Minds
Souls of Mischief - 93 til Infinity
Joey Bada$$ - Snakes
Math/neo proggy that fizzles out at the end:
Redneck Manifesto - Rubber Up
" " - Smile More
" " - Clue Out Puzzles
" " - I Don't Speak Monkey Language...
Bad Dudes - Dawn of the Dudes
" " - Animatronic Tito Puente
" " - Celebrate the Moments of...
" " - Preteen Wolf
The 2 - We Is 1 (sped up)
J Boogie's Dubtronic Science - Together (Crazy P Remix)
Holy Ghost! - Wait and See (CFCF Remix)
Upsilon Acrux - Who's Running Shit
I have another mish mash one that includes some of the above plus stuff like Aphex Twin, New Order, Errors and Weezer.
What's yours?
Let's see if this thread flops! Or I get crucified by the cool people!

I forgot to add that you can include any style! There is no shame in 80s techno either! I made one a while ago but cannot find it anymore.

I'll be keeping an eye on this...
I tend to listen to build-up/release type stuff, because when the drop drops I start working harder. Def need more of this. Also anything with a nice big chorus that'll get me going.
Nick Cave & BS's - There She Goes, My Beautiful World
Dawn Richard - Faith
Sleigh Bells - A/B Machines
Boz Scaggs - Georgia
Clash - Complete Control
