Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 22 March 2013 16:51 (twelve years ago)

I Will Follow is an all-time anthem, and I should be ashamed for not voting for it, but Twilight moves me.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 March 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

Twilight. This is a fantastic record.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 22 March 2013 17:01 (twelve years ago)

Out of Control is one of my favorite songs in the whole entire world.

go to party leather (ENBB), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:02 (twelve years ago)

God this a such a good record.

I will follow is obv amazing too as is Twilight ahhhhhh I can't choose. No. I have chosen. I am sticking to Out of Control.

go to party leather (ENBB), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:03 (twelve years ago)

'Twilight'... could also have been 'An Can Dubh/Into The Heart'. There's something about this album that U2 were unable to capture afterwards.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

*'An Cat Dubh'.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

Can we have a YouTube Oi! poll to go with this one?

Jeff "Skink" Baxter (Jon Lewis), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:04 (twelve years ago)

ha, very good

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:10 (twelve years ago)

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:41 (twelve years ago)

Dr X O'Skeleton, Friday, 22 March 2013 21:46 (twelve years ago)

Side one!

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 22 March 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

Tough poll! It would be down to "I Will Follow" or "Electric Co." for me.

I Don't Wanna Be Dissed (By Anyone But You) (WilliamC), Friday, 22 March 2013 23:59 (twelve years ago)

'electric co' barely over 'out of control'

Old Boy In Network (Michael B), Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:14 (twelve years ago)

I love "I Will Follow" so much, it's ridic

I dunno if I love it so much because it rips "Public Image" but I'd play both a hundred times a day.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:16 (twelve years ago)

My first thought was "Twilight," but then I thought "A Day Without Me." Now I don't know what to think.

Kent Burt, Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:29 (twelve years ago)

kinda dig the original "Out of Control":

Darth Magus (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:31 (twelve years ago)

Michael B - Ronan told me about the opening of Intermission years ago and I became obsessed with it for quite a while. It's just used so damn well. Also, that is a good movie available entirely on You Tube.

go to party leather (ENBB), Monday, 25 March 2013 14:16 (twelve years ago)

Forever intertwined in my mind with Remain In Light, as both were released in the fall of '80 and I replayed both incessantly on my car cassette deck. Hard for me to pick one track, as I consider the record so much a complete entity. Incredible album, but "boy" did I lose interest in them quickly thereafter.

Basil Ironweed (Dan Peterson), Monday, 25 March 2013 15:17 (twelve years ago)

when I saw'em in 2001 at the end of the Elevation tour in Miami, they played "Out of Control" suddenly.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 25 March 2013 15:18 (twelve years ago)

Ah, wikipedia: The album's sexual overtones led to its enthusiastic acceptance by gays in American gay clubs shortly after its release.

Basil Ironweed (Dan Peterson), Monday, 25 March 2013 15:22 (twelve years ago)

You're thinking of Boi.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 25 March 2013 15:26 (twelve years ago)

Oh Tarfumes, I like that OoC vers very much. Thanking you. I'd never heard it.

go to party leather (ENBB), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:51 (twelve years ago)

I was playing this album on Friday thanks to this poll, it's amazing

Darth Icky (DJP), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:51 (twelve years ago)

You're welcome, ENBB! That EP is so...cute. Probably the last time Bono's vocals could be described as "chirpy."

Darth Magus (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 25 March 2013 18:04 (twelve years ago)

The first three U2 records mostly blend together in my mind, but listening to this one for this poll finally made me realize what a strong front-to-back album it is.

Still, the highlight for me has always been and remains Out of Control.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Monday, 8 April 2013 01:11 (twelve years ago)

Haven't heard this in like 25 years, kinda wish I could hear it right now. Either "I Will Follow" or "Electric Co." for me plz.

Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Monday, 8 April 2013 02:39 (twelve years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Friday, 12 April 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

well alright

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 12 April 2013 10:54 (twelve years ago)

eleven years pass...

Played it this morning for the first time in 20 years. Its brashness and naivete sounded refreshing.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 22 February 2025 15:31 (three months ago)

Yeah, I never think of it as an especially great or impressive record, but whenever I do put it on, it's a blast. "Out of Control" is one of my top five U2 songs, easily.

cryptosicko, Saturday, 22 February 2025 15:32 (three months ago)

I've sung "I Will Follow" at karaoke and it's a blast/

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 22 February 2025 15:35 (three months ago)

Also, wtf is this:

For the American release and other international distributors, the album's cover image was changed,[19] due to Island Records' fears that it could be perceived as pedophilic.

Indeed, my vinyl copy, picked up used forever ago, is this one:

brimstead, Saturday, 22 February 2025 15:49 (three months ago)

It’s a great album!

Slayer University (Boring, Maryland), Saturday, 22 February 2025 18:44 (three months ago)

All the songs bang, but I prefer the single version of Out of Control

Slayer University (Boring, Maryland), Saturday, 22 February 2025 18:45 (three months ago)

It's wild to have a band with as many career peaks as this one that still gets shit on all the time (often deservedly so!). If the band didn't get huge, I wonder if they would have just gotten put in a pile with, like, the Chameleons or the Sound or one of those bands. Or maybe they would have just hovered around for years as a sort of major cult band, like Siouxsie and the Banshees.
