Hipsters/ people who read the Wire/ ILXors, aren't they all into black metal these days?

I think that's kind of dying out as the genre does.

I was listening to black metal in2008 or so, and I'm not remotely hip, so I figure the hipsters et al probably reached their black metal peak around 2004.

Sunn O))) is pretty hip and Wire-friendly but I don't think it is black metal exactly

i honestly don't remember seeing any hipsters at black metal shows in 2003 or 2004, unless they just bought the records and never checked out the music.

It was in Vice Magazine by 2003 or so. The book of photography that came out around that time was a key enabler too. And the repress of that prick Moynihan's book.

Wire journalists had their ears open too but I don't recall seeing anything there until 2005, when they did a hopelessly ill-informed primer on "subterranean metal". Edwin Pouncey started hanging around with Stephen O'Malley.
