I love how "The Final Countdown" is just wedged in there.

It's been fun to watch how he finds music, and what he latches on to. I try to not push too much on him and his brother, but sometimes I'll play him something I think he'll like. And sometimes he will, but my endorsement doesn't really seem to matter -- he likes what he likes.

I will say that for Christian rap (which he heard at his after-school program), Trip Lee is ok. Things have come a ways from DC Talk.

I started my kids at 5 on Gene Clark, Faust and Trout Mask Replica.

Is that Katy B song featured in a video game? Cause that seems to be the most out of place to me.

voting for "Smooth Criminal" because I loved that song when I was 8, too. big fan of both the Pink songs, though.

Smooth Criminal vs. I Want You Back for me. Went with the former for the sole reason that, if pressed, its the one I'd most want to listen to right now.

The only mix-CD in the whole of human history that will have "I Want You Back" and "The Final Countdown" together. I'll be voting for one of them...I get the 11-year-old version of this from my students. I started out liking the Justin Bieber/Nicki Minaj song, but 500 plays later (as five girls prepare a dance routine) I sometimes step out into the hallway to get away.

That came from me playing the album in the car. After the first few times through he started asking for that track to be repeated.

I have yet to figure out where the David Guetta song came from, but he was adamant that it had to be the lead-off.

Great list. Going with "Smooth Criminal," although I bet I would have loved "Hey Boy Hey Girl" as an 8-year old. Here we go!

Yeah, I don't know where he heard "The Last Song." But he does have a thing for power ballads. During a Green Day phase a few years ago, we spent a lot of time listening to "21 Guns."

Some great stuff on there, but voting "Try" simply on the strength of this tv perf, one of the best I've ever seen on a chatshow:
