i'm going to end up cutting myself if i try and figure out how i feel about this so consider this more of a survey on my end

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 April 2013 02:55 (twelve years ago)

Really tough...

My unordered POV:
Guitar String / Wedding Ring
Wrong Feels So Right
This Kiss
More Than A Memory
Tonight I'm Getting Over You

closely followed by: Your Heart Is A Muscle, Sweetie

Wondering if Good Time or Beautiful will get any votes.

[everything else]

Good Time

Tiny Little Bows
This Kiss
Curiosity
Hurt So Good
Tonight I'm Getting Over You

^^^^ all of these are impeccable but if I have to I'll give a slight edge to "This Kiss", which is truly flawless. Esp. the way the beat brings in the little hi-hat tic on the off-beat on "and she's a real sweet girl..."

I'd like "This Kiss" better were it not for those horribly chinzy synths.

*chintzy

The slap bass riffs on Tiny Little Bows, String/Ring and Drive are perfect. Those are my three favorite at the mo. Everything on this album is perfectly placed.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Monday, 8 April 2013 05:07 (twelve years ago)

I like the Bieber colab alright now too. It's a little Jason Mraz/Colbie Callet but whatever. Only one that needs skippin is the Owl City one.

"this kiss"

tho i like "hurt so good" a lot

teledyldonix, Monday, 8 April 2013 06:44 (twelve years ago)

CURIOSITY

the drop into the second chorus is just one of those incredible right-at-the-top-of-your-head pop rushes

next "hurt so good", melody for dayyyys and that amazing synth chug underpinning it

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 8 April 2013 08:15 (twelve years ago)

voted for owl city

乒乓, Monday, 8 April 2013 10:04 (twelve years ago)

lol when I heard "This Kiss" (briefly) on the radio last fall, I thought, "Damn, this is as good as that Carly Rae Jepsen single."

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 8 April 2013 11:00 (twelve years ago)

"turn me up", followed closely by "your heart is a muscle"

monotony, Monday, 8 April 2013 11:07 (twelve years ago)

I'll actually listen to this again tonight to figure out, but it's def between "Tiny Little Bows", "Curiosity", "This Kiss", and "Guitar String/Wedding Ring".

I'll show myself out.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Monday, 8 April 2013 13:23 (twelve years ago)

I Know You Have A Girlfriend would be my top pick, but its not on all the editions, and Drive after that. Of the proper original album tracks, This Kiss and Hurt So Good are about equal in my mind.

of the main tracks, Hurts So Good

tough poll 4 me

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 8 April 2013 16:42 (twelve years ago)

ppl were down on "guitar string / wedding ring" in the album thread but that synth sound in the chorus is seriously amazing pinkish tape drool

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 8 April 2013 16:43 (twelve years ago)

this album is really whatever to me and i don't understand the praise for it, doesn't do much outright wrong but very little about it ever sticks with me

voting for "Your Heart Is A Muscle" i guess

some dude, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 02:54 (twelve years ago)

don't think it hangs together as an album, sure. but it has lots of singles that payoff on their own.

I just read you
but that is crazy

Tim F, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 03:30 (twelve years ago)

i mean aside from "beautiful" i think it hangs totally hangs together as an album, it even has like traditional album beats, "curiosity" ascending coyly from "call me maybe," the whole "turn me up" / "hurt so good" transition is like one song improving/illuminating the other

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 03:38 (twelve years ago)

what i don't get is all the hate for "good time." owl city is pretty lame, but carly's contribution to that song is incredible! the verse where she drops her phone in the pool is one of my favourite moments of the album.

marc iv, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 06:20 (twelve years ago)

"What's up with this Prince song inside my head?" says a guy who has no business EVER referencing Prince.

But really, the presence of the Owl City guy on anything is a deal breaker for me. His voice just makes me itch.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 06:51 (twelve years ago)

carly's delivery on "good time" is exquisite and eventually charmed me to the whole song

owl city dude still sounds like a reconstituted ben gibbard, after a mangling

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 07:09 (twelve years ago)

So much of this album is impeccable but it's between Drive, Sweetie and Tiny Little Bows.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 08:50 (twelve years ago)

legit voted 'good time', gets better everytime i hear it

next is prob 'turn me up', then 'tonight im getting over you' or maybe 'more than a memory' idk

I Know You Have a Girlfriend >>>

the rest of my POV:
Drive

Tiny Little Bows

booing some dude so hard right now. BOOOOOOOOOO.

i agree with some dude's take

乒乓, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 13:43 (twelve years ago)

going by itune play counts i'll vote 'sweetie'

乒乓, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 13:46 (twelve years ago)

idk if i'd pick it over 'this kiss' or 'hurts so good' (or, or.. ) but i'm guessing 'wrong feels so right' is being mad underrated. with your sneaky eyes!

r|t|c, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 13:46 (twelve years ago)

i think what killed this album for me is the comparison that somebody made in the other CRJ threads between this album and marit larsen

乒乓, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 13:47 (twelve years ago)

i agree with some dude's take

"Your Heart Is A Muscle" is fine but thinking it's the best thing here = your opinion is suspect to the point of invalidation.

Tim F, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 14:38 (twelve years ago)

really suspect the lack of "girlfriend" love has to do with ppl not having it on their albums.

it is a relief from the relentlessness of the rest of the album. its not her strength, but honestly as an album i wouldn't have minded a bit more in its vein.

Chuck E was a hero to most (s.clover), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 17:17 (twelve years ago)

I went with "I Know You Have a Girlfriend" mostly because I thought it wasn't the consensus pick and I love it - it's not the ALBUM but it's great.

Could have easily picked most other songs, but especially

Drive (which again isn't like the rest of the album though, so.)
Sweetie (bonus track but so wonderful)

Turn Me Up and Tiny Little Bows are my two favourites off the album proper or whatever?
Curiosity is great but still feels like part of that initial Curiosity EP even in the new guise with all of the BOSH.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 20:42 (twelve years ago)

but this is all still v. v. great.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Tuesday, 9 April 2013 20:42 (twelve years ago)

there's just something about the shrill strident faux 80s openings of a lot of songs like "This Kiss" and "Hurt So Good" that turns me off pretty quickly, at least "Heart" isn't quite as painful on the ears. i mean that kinda thing could work, if she had any personality whatsoever.

some dude, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 21:00 (twelve years ago)

DRIVE.

For some reason I want to say ‘More than a Memory’, even though I prefer other songs to it. \o.o/

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 21:25 (twelve years ago)

"Hurts So Good" for most underrated, "Turn Me Up" for most overrated (seriously what the actual fuck)

FWIW, I have completely come around to everything on this album aside from "Good Time" since I knocked this record itt a few months back.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Thursday, 13 June 2013 02:11 (twelve years ago)

the new single is okay.

The synth hook in "This Kiss" comes to mind a couple times a week.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 13 June 2013 02:18 (twelve years ago)

they way her voice cuts up and becomes like extra percussion in the bridge of "this kiss" is exquisite

also those dry guitar chords at the end of the synth hook

yes!
