I'm feeling like it's going to be a 2005 or 2007, but maybe a 2001?

What are the defining characteristics of 2013? Are we fully aware of them yet?

weird question tbh. years ending in 3 often have a bit of a pop-reggae/dancehall craze over the summer I've noticed, so sort of looking forward to that if it happens again?

They do?

Yeah, I'd say (only drawing from memory here, so correct me if I'm slightly off on my dates but):

1983 - sort of a watershed year for dancehall i would say
1993 - Shine by Aswad, Sweat (Lalalala Long), Compliments On Your Kiss, Chaka Demus & Pliers etc...
2003 - Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul and others become superstars with big hits.

1993 also gave us Informer.

Well right now 2013 seems to be a year that's really heavy and comebacks and strong material form more established artists as opposed to any largely hyped newcomers. But of course the year is still young, and that could just be me.

MarkoP, Friday, 12 April 2013 13:42 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, you'll have to go off of Q1 releases, known future releases, and intuition. I'm not totally sure how I'm gonna tackle this myself.

2009. Because that is the most recent. It will be even more like 2012.

seven months pass...

How did it all shape up, in your estimation?

how's life, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 13:50 (eleven years ago)

i'm gonna say 2002. Miley and Lorde were like a rerun of album one Avril and album two P!nk.

Somewhere between 2002's explosion of riotous newcomer energy and 2003's succession of blockbusters.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 14:08 (eleven years ago)

Also Pharrell showing up all over the place.

This didn't really seem to happen this year, unless we count Kanye throwing in a bunch of Capleton and Beenie Man samples into Yeezus.

shame

Didn't seem like a particularly strong year at all, I'm kind of struggling getting through some of these records on the EOY lists. 2006/2009 seems kind of accurate.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 4 December 2013 17:24 (eleven years ago)

For me it was a very strong year for singles, but not so much for albums.
