Arborea -- Artful dodgers of the folk scene, or also rans?

Arborea gets little recognition for their contribution in the psych folk scene, but they have established a consistent track-record of solid albums chock-full of dreamy and sometimes tripped-out folkiness that stands strongly with their contemporaries. A new album, their sixth, comes out at the end of this month (Fortress of the Sun) and i can't wait to hear it.

Is this genre simply not that appealing, has it "run its course", or are these guys just not good enough to be mentioned along side more popular bands?

Here's a fine example of their style....

Their Wikipedia page looks like it was written by the band

Good god am I tired of paragraphs like this

Arborea base themselves in Maine and derive a lot of the inspiration for their music from the rugged, beautiful land and seascapes of their home state, and even record some of their music in an old family cabin that Shanti’s great grandfather built during the Great Depression that is nestled along the Western Mountains of Maine.

I have many lovely lacy nightgowns (contenderizer), Sunday, 14 April 2013 04:02 (twelve years ago)

i had a listen to clips of their previous album, didn't do much for me at all, the vocals in particular are fairly unappealing and way too upfront

Glad to have some input; NED - please listen to some of their other albums to put the new one in context (would love a copy, btw, even though it's the vinyl for me). POLIOPOLICE -- agreed; sounds like marketing copy all day. CONTENDEIZER -- nothin' wrong with Maine; fine country and shores. ELECTRICSOUND -- nice Buckley cover on that album, yes?

I liked the clip above okay. Kind of haunting and spooky.

An interesting aspect of their music is that while their live music is almost always pastoral, their live stuff can be very heavily produced and can create many sonic levels from which to delve.

their live stuff can be very heavily produced --- rather, that describes their studio work.
