Great bands deserve bigger audiences, but we almost never talk about local music here. This is a big oversight in an age where we can and should be able to listen to great bands from anywhere easily. So, for those of you who go to local music shows, post links to the music (especially songs) by great local bands that you've seen lately.

ECSTATIC SUNSHINE was a Baltimore band that existed from 2005-2011 in various incarnations with one consistent member, Matt Papich. Ecstatics was about guitar deconstruction- Freckle Wars features Papich and Dustin Wong (Ponytail) firing off highly melodic, spritely, and intricate instrumental anthems in miniature, using only a Strat and Telecaster plugged directly into four Fender practice amps. NO REVERB, DELAY, MODULATION AT ALL! Brilliant songwriting. Living and Way get more dense and abstract, pondering and expanding on single notes rather than fondling the fretboard. Their masterpiece is 2009's Yesterday's Work, an ineffably emotional, nostalgic, futuristic, human piece of work that brings the guitar into the twenty-first century, and shows us that there is still plenty of ground to cover in making guitar music that isn't contrived or exhausted. The 2011 record Who's Who in Paradise? is unfortunately still unreleased, although it's a great record, almost as good as YW. Papich currently makes music as Co La, another project worth checking out if you're into any of this...

I know a couple of the guys from this band. They were starting to build steam and sort of broke up too soon (ino):

there's a brief thread about them if you search. their second record, cannery hours, is fantastic. Kind of needs to be played beginning to end on good speakers.
