Orlando Voorn?

Doesn't seem to be much love around for him, maybe because he's got so many aliases. I always thought he had a really unique style and great ear for unusual melancholy/uplifting melodies.

The 'fix' mix of 'Aguila' by Dj Rolando is one of my favourite techno tracks of all time. And 'Basic Bastard' volume 4 is pretty good.

What else should I search for?

Saw a great dj spin this one. I had to ask what it was. It reminds me of "Early Reflections" by L. Vincent but perhaps a hair groovier. This is was my intro to Orlando Voorn. I think I really love this guy. I'm going through all these videos now. Thanks so much.

seven years pass...

I've been on a major 90s Orlando Voorn tear recently. Really love how right from the beginning he seems to have treaded this line between chunky house and bleepy techno in a way that, if not necessarily ~ahead of its time~ in some showy sense, then at least feels like it could have fit in with so many things that happened later on - in particular, a lot of the early 90s stuff feels to me like it anticipates stuff like, variously, Paperclip People, the trackier (e.g. Christophe Monier) end of French house and also a kind of Areal / Sender vibe.

The above links all same to be broken but I've been listening to the following a lot (still working through a lot of this stuff though!):

Frequency - Kiss The Sky (Remix)
Fix - Flash
Format- Solid Session
Frequency & Juan Atkins - Industrial Metal
The Stalker - Blast
Format - Burning Passion
Fix - Dope Computer
Fix - Diligent
The Nighttripper - Machine City

i think a massive part of this sound is due to his unique programming sense on an MPC. It grooves in a way completely unlike most of his european contemporaries of the time, yet is plugged into currents that perhaps only someone in the netherlands at that time would have picked up on. i've always felt the netherlands doesn't get the props it deserves. it had many of the best labels, producers, djs and clubs anywhere in the 90s. to this day, clubbing is in the dna of the dutch in a way that is perhaps a slight notch above anywhere else i've witnessed.

These Diligence collections reprinting a bunch of his archived stuff are both very good.
