Easily "Foolish Games" for me.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Saturday, 18 May 2013 20:29 (twelve years ago)

was about to vote "Foolish Games", but I can barely remember how it goes, so "Standing Still" gets my vote.

Jewel was just about the only music my dad listened to in the late '90s (before Norah Jones and Dido came along), so I know way too many of her songs by heart. and yet he recently heard me playing The Sundays' "Wild Horses" and asked, "Is This Jewel?" so I think he's over her at this point. there's a memorable poem in the liner notes to one of her first 2 albums where she talks about guys "comparing penis sizes", but I can't find it anywhere online, darn.

Would vote "You Were Meant For Me" if it was the original, bouncy, electric-guitar version and not the mopey piece of crap she put out later while disappearing the original. Otherwise "Standing Still."

Huston we got chicken lol (Phil D.), Saturday, 18 May 2013 20:50 (twelve years ago)

her aunt Mossy was a cool hippie folk chick who put out a double album in the '70s, and Jewel even recorded one of her songs. maybe this should have been a Mossy Davidson thread.

0304 was her best album, but her best singles were from earlier i think.

stefon taylor swiftboat (s.clover), Saturday, 18 May 2013 20:52 (twelve years ago)

huh, I don't remember two version of "You Were Meant for Me", xxpost. maybe I'm not really a True Fan.

"Who will save your soul" had the dope bassline, was the little single that could for like a year before she started shifting units, going with that

trick paddy pollars (some dude), Saturday, 18 May 2013 21:31 (twelve years ago)

Not only were there two versions, the video for the first one was directed by Sean Penn!

Huston we got chicken lol (Phil D.), Saturday, 18 May 2013 21:43 (twelve years ago)

"standing still" is the only one i like. "foolish games" is a bunch of senseless moaning to me.

dyl, Saturday, 18 May 2013 21:54 (twelve years ago)

kinda wish i'd voted for "Intuition," Jewel doing a synth pop song and tarting it up in the video was an Important Cultural Moment imo

oh man Kilcher and Monahan really are two sides of the same coin

some dude, Monday, 2 February 2015 22:52 (ten years ago)

Except for the obligatory 'it's the 90s do a spoken interlude' - which in this case goes 'sweet sorrow is the goal tomorrow' - GArrrghhGH.

But the 'do you - want me' parts are really great, very vulnerable, I can get all Jewelry on this, esp. on a car radio.

Vic Perry, Monday, 2 February 2015 23:02 (ten years ago)

I don't really know shit abt classical music but p sure mozart wasn't baroque era
