Can Young Thug have his own thread? 1017 Thug is one of the mixtapes of the year, and the guy is killing every guest verse he lands (and he's landing way more than I can keep up with). Feels like it's only a matter of time until he gets his crossover moment, and when he does it's going to be really wild.

1017 thug is fantastic almost all the way through... "shooting star" is the real underrated track on there imo

"Shooting Star" is crazy catchy. I wish the Gucci verse were more substantial (though I think he sounds really good on that track regardless).

ICFN2 is definitely his most approachable release, and the one I listen to the most, but 1017 is way more interesting, since it's so far out there so much of the time. It's one of those tapes that feels like it's more interested in testing ideas than presenting them

really can't deal with this dude on any level, can't take the boring autotune garble or the tinny production or the sickly melodies at all. only midway through this did i remember that you all hyped him up last year and i couldn't even get through that mixtape

what new ideas anyway? it's like bargain basement future (also how many rappers are doing garbled autotune shit atm?)

'ICFN2' is the tape i return more often to - especially the euphoria that comes across stuff like 'i know', who's on top' or 'curtains' -, but '1017 thug' feels more coherent to me - 'nigeria' ftw.

'ICFN3' didn't really make that much of an impression, besides a few songs - 'foreign' especially. i prob should listen to it again, tho.

The Future comparison doesn't work for me, because Future's energy is so subdued; Young Thug is always wired-up and spazzed out. And some of Thug's stuff is deliberately obnoxious, but I have a high tolerance for that because I listened to way too much punk growing up. (It's interesting that Thug is one of the few rappers who really gives off a strong punk vibe, even though there's no real indication he's actually influenced by punk in any direct way.)

"Gimme a cup twice" cracks me up. That song really nails the frustration of having to wait for anything. I always think of it whenever I'm in line at the grocery store or a sandwich shop or whatever now

According to some thinly sourced (or non-sourced) tweets Young Thug is in jail, but nobody knows why or for how long. Feel like the Internet is letting me down by not providing details on this one.

Not really. It's not unheard of for regional club hits to worm their way onto radio, but the structure of this one is pretty unorthodox. Still, with enough momentum, I dunno, I was holding out hope.

I love that Megan song he's on but mostly just for the beat rather than anything Thug's bringing to the table

thug is def better generally on his own songs than features, you need the whole thug experience

Jeffery is my favourite album by him although I haven't really listened to much recently. This new one is really nice, kind of acoustic and soulful a bit like some of the moments on Beautiful Thugger Girls

from what i read of the indictment, the song lyrics and photos with gang signs are mostly used as evidence that ysl was operating "as a gang," which justified the RICO charges. they seem to have actual evidence of him doing things like giving permission to people to murder yfn lucci.

i have no idea how this will play out and it is very possible this is a case of an overzealous prosecutor. it does seem insane to me that someone like thug, an icon, would still be wrapped up in this type of crime.
