See also: most other genres of music.

It's annoying, I agree, and a big part of why I've never attended many shows.

I've never thought of deep house and techno as being for a particularly young audience - as opposed to dubstep or EDM, which has shows starting at pretty standard times. it's clubs like output / cielo / srb that start up past 10.

I get the drug argument, but it's just surprising that every other genre of music has shows w/ doors @ ~8 and show @ ~9 and electronic music doesn't get going till 11.

Obviously djs can do their thing waaay longer than a live band can, but - well, this isn't going anywhere.

"Shows"

Matt DC, Friday, 24 May 2013 07:09 (twelve years ago)

They're not fucking shows, they're parties, and who wants to go to a party that ends at 11?

Matt DC, Friday, 24 May 2013 07:13 (twelve years ago)

Most good nights in Europe will have afterhours too, or outside places like club der visionaere right on the river there, which starts at noon or 2pm, no real fixed hours to many things

Youre mentioning New York but that has day/early stuff too, mister Sunday?

Matt I'll have you know the promoters behind last year's highly successful bloc festival are putting on a party this Sunday that ends at 11!

yeah in europe you can go out and see something on a sunday afternoon.

I went to a Resident Advisor thing last week at the Village Underground in Shoreditch. I specifically wanted to see the Eccentronic Research Council play (for the first and only time in London) their (awesome) 1612 Underture LP with Maxine Peake on vocals. They were on at about 10 I think, and there were just like 50 people there. The headliners (Modeselektor) weren't on until after midnight (which, if you know London, means you basically can't get home using public transportation). I'm old and tired, so I went home. When I saw pics the next day of Modeselektor, it was actually like there had been two totally different gigs within the same gig - it was packed with a 100% different crowd it seemed like.

night buses aren't public transportation now?

in london it is sometimes easier for me to get home at 2 in the morning than at 7pm

✌_✌ (c sharp major), Friday, 24 May 2013 10:38 (twelve years ago)

but, yes, electronic music "shows" start and end so late because they are parties where you dance into the night, not shows where you see an artist play and then toddle away warmly home

I could do with electronic shows where the headliners finish at 2am instead of going on at 2am a little more often tbh

Matt DC on the money with the party argument. Thing is I wouldn't mind being able to party during the day, I screw up my sleeping patterns constantly due to going out dancing.

Haha, loving the comment about Bloc.
