So we're almost halfway through 2013 now, and while there's been a lot of good shit that's been released since the beginning of the year (including some very serious contenders for the 2013 EOY poll), I'm wondering which 2012 albums you guys are still listening to regularly? Whether they're albums that featured in the 2012 EOY poll or not, it would be worth seeing which albums released last year you all haven't been able to leave alone well into this year.
For me: Chairlift's Something, School Of Seven Bells' Ghostory and Wild Nothing's Nocturne (to name three that placed on the EOY poll) and Iterum by Daily Bread (to name one that didn't) are still getting listened to regularly here!
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Tuesday, 28 May 2013 20:28 (twelve years ago)
Also: are there albums that came out last year that you've discovered belatedly THIS year and are getting a lot of enjoyment out of? Are there any albums that made it onto your EOY 2012 ballot that have since lost a bit of their sparkle for you?
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Tuesday, 28 May 2013 20:29 (twelve years ago)
Still bump the Miguel on the reg

Can - The Lost TapesDan Deacon - AmericaThe Chemical Bros. - Don't ThinkOrbital - WonkyZammuto s/t
All five of these still get a lot of play for me. Especially the Deacon and Zammuto albums. I'd probably listen to Orbital a lot too if I hadn't burned out on it by playing it non stop.

the Wild Nothing record finally clicked for me right after the ILX poll voting ended, would have voted it #1 probably. have been listening to it a ton ever since.
also still listening to the DIIV record, and Graveyard - Lights Out which was another late discovery
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 20:34 (twelve years ago)
Shackleton - The Drawbar Organ EP'sVoices from the Lake
Although to be fair, they're about the only two albums I bought last year.
― millmeister, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 21:00 (twelve years ago)
laurel halo quarantine.. probably the time of year (good spring/summer album), but it left a strong impression last year and holds up really well. vocals occasionally grating, but the music is most lush.

main contenders :
jim jones revue : the savage heartsoulsavers : the light the dead see
however, checking my stats etc, my main love in 2012 was the tom moulton boxset of philly edits ..

Corin Tucker Band: Kill My Blues (yet I've somehow misplaced the companion tshirt that came w/my bundle order)
I'd still be bangin' the new ZZ Top, but it too has gone missing.

ZZ Top, Pinkish Black, Tweak Bird, the Sonic Youth Smart Bar Chicago 1985 live album and Kowloon Walled City still in pretty regular rotation.

Yes. These two and the Chief Keef Finally Rich album and Mac Demarco 2 have remained on my ipod. Oh yeah and Putrifiers II by Thee Oh Sees.

pieces of songs from late nights with jeremih still come to me unbidden, and whenever they do i am happy to play the whole thing.
― marc iv, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 01:19 (twelve years ago)
Of my 2012 top 10, I've probably listened to Miguel (#6) the most in the new year, but I am listening to Chromatics (#4) at this very moment.
Do late discoveries count? Cause my fave 2012 release of 2013 so far is definitely California Wives' "Art History."

Mac Demarco for me as well. I don't mind the college-jam-band-dude vibes it evokes either (at times).
― Evan, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)
I'm pretty firmly ensconced in just listening to 2013 records at the moment (so much to get to know, especially recently), so haven't gone back to a 2012 favourite in a while.
Best late discovery is the 2012 House Of Blondes album, which is an OMD-meets-Eno synth pop thing, and utterly gorgeous.

i've played a lot more of it since the new year too, these are just the ones i've naturally kept in high rotation.
late 2012 adds: meshuggah, early graves, white medal, recondite ('on acid'), michael pisaro ('tombstones'), 'wandelweiser und so weiter', future, daniel bachman ('oh be joyful')

― billstevejim, Thursday, 30 May 2013 07:55 (twelve years ago)
There are loads - too many to mention really. 2012 turned out to be a fantastic year. Still listening to Bish Bosch, The Seer, Chairlift, Poliça, Laurel Halo, Kalenna, Andres and Bee Mask to name a few. The beauty of the EOY polls is I get a glut of listening that takes me a good 6 months to truly tackle in full.
― Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Thursday, 30 May 2013 08:44 (twelve years ago)
The Laurel Halo and Poliça albums only clicked recently. Def the time of year and something to do with a new Knife album had something to do with it
― Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Thursday, 30 May 2013 08:47 (twelve years ago)
dog latin: you gotta hear the last couple of Laurel Halo 12"s if you haven't already. 'Sunlight On The Faded' is another song-based tune but a lot more melodic than Quarantine (you're the guy who hates the word 'autumnal' iirc, so I'll just say it's light and wispy in a slightly melancholic sort of way). The new one 'Behind The Green Door' is more house/techno oriented so it's closer to Hour Logic, but again it's very inventive and quite ravishing in places. Totally one of my favourite artists right now.
― dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 30 May 2013 09:02 (twelve years ago)
"song-based tune" is probably one of the more idiotic phrases i have recently typed

― dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 30 May 2013 09:11 (twelve years ago)
Haha, cheers NickB I'll check em. I hadn't heard much LH before Quarantine an I understand it's a bit of a departure for her in general. I don't hate the word 'autumnal', just when it's (over)used in particular contexts - but good memory!

The Dreadful Yawns - Picnic
Weird little band that started out alt-country and has kind of turned into a more-interesting-than-most Elephant 6 style indie psych band. The last track on the album, which starts out like a religious campfire song before turning into A Day In The Life and then into Music For 18 Musicians is a pretty good place to start. Despite having had one of the best looking female singers in recent memory, they seem to be almost completely unknown. On Spotify. Not life changing, but catchy. Better production would probably help.

I still listen to Gucci Mane's Trap Back and Trap God a few times a month. Also 100s' Ice Cold Perm and Cloud Nothings' Attack on Memory. Those are both albums I like so much I have to actively ration how much I spin them, so I don't burn them out.
