Yeah I feel the same. But I almost went to go see them just because "The Mother We Share" is so goddamn good. I thought maybe live they could bring that energy to their other songs.

Have been addicted to The Mother We Share for months. I like the other songs too but this one's perfect.

Solid album but the first thing I ever heard by this lot was The Mother Will Share and there's nothing to touch it. Haim they are not.

i felt the same way about "gun" at first but it's now apparent to me that "night sky" is the best thing on here

The mother we share is great. The vocals are rough but every time I hear a bit of her scottish accent in it all is forgiven.

I like "The Mother We Share", but it was "Lies" that really grabbed me initially. I wouldn't claim that every song on the album is of equal intensity or immediacy, but I think it's a great debut by a really promising band. Frightened Rabbits + Robyn, or a post-indie version of Berlin, or something. The hype, such as it is, is absolutely fine with me.

It seems like just about everyone on this thread has a different favorite song, despite the album basically operating in the same tiny box all the way through. Mine's still Recover.

They were pretty great last week btw and one of my favorite songs was one one of the dudes sang. He was a crazy dancer. Everyone at the show was like 12.

OK maybe like 20 but man it was a YOUNG crowd which is not surprising at all it was just something I noticed.

I like it a lot, but am still digesting it. I need to go back and re-listen to the Screen Violence bonus tracks as well. I wasn't fond of those when the deluxe edition came out, but I'm wondering if that just wasn't some kind of knee-jerk reaction.

"Screaming" was the best of the Screen Violence bonus tracks, better than a couple that made the album, but largely I think they made the right choices with what they left off

"over" is a solid one-off, feels like screen violence lyrics sung over something from every open eye

This year is the 10th anniversary of the first CHVRCHES album. I met Iain and Martin when I was 23 — a little baby of a person, in hindsight. Looking back on what we’ve achieved together, so much of it doesn’t feel real or even possible. Thank you to every person who has been a part of that.

I am so proud of all the chapters our band has been able to have and I am so grateful to my bandmates for taking me on that journey with them. We are all confident that the CHVRCHES story has many more pages yet to be written.

For now, though, I am excited / terrified / bewildered to tell you that I have been working on my first ever solo music and will be able to start sharing it soon.

For a long time, I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything outside of CHVRCHES. Since I was 15 years old, I have always, only, ever been in a band. I always wanted so badly to belong somewhere — to be one of the boys, and to fit in. But as I sail / stumble through this era of my life (your 20s really do go by in a flash, kids), it has started to feel like there are things I want to write and say and do that need to be done on my own.

Thank you for being kind to us and for giving me the opportunity to do this. The first headline shows are now announced and on sale at 10am local tomorrow in the US and Monday in Europe. I guess here we fucking go?!

Seeing her in Boston tonight, and enjoying the fact that I really don't know what to expect.

oooh so im assuming the rest of her solo stuff is good? if the album is anywhere near as wonderful as "Are You Awake?" then this could really be something. I've been playing that track over and over.

i listened to some live recordings and the main reference points are 80s madonna (she's even covering "like a prayer") and pretty hate machine (surprisingly enough), it all sounds pretty good

In concert, at least, the other songs were all much more upbeat than "Are You Awake?"

Not sure it's a completely successful album, but I was surprised how fun (and 90s!) it is compared with Chvrches. Some of her sharpest lyrics to date. The Greg Kurstin-produced "Sunday Best" is the clear standout to me

Sounds like...Evanescence?

OK, two more listens and I was overreacting a bit re: Evanescence, but that chorus and the rap bit are not good.

i don't hear evanescence but this is kinda limp, it doesn't work anywhere near as well as them going in a more post-punk direction should. the bridge doesn't work at all yeah

screen violence was incredible but this doesn't have anything on that

Little bit of an echo of the last Paramore album* for me, with the dialing up post-punk influences and trying to tackle more political subject matter in a "gestures at all this" kinda way. That DIDN'T work for me on the Paramore record, but I'm still interested to see how this song plays in the context of a full album. Even though it doesn't reach the highs of the Screen Violence material (or Lauren's solo LP), it still sounds generally similar.

Hopefully they'll do a rollout where it will be like, 2-3 months away and not sometime next spring, because I will definitely lose interest by then.

*(side note: JESUS, that was 3 years ago already?)

Not feeling the new single at all which is a shame as Screen Violence was the album that finally made me see what people love about this band. You can hear what they were going for on Roses, but the execution is so awkward and clumsy. I was relieved when it ended.
