And Nate Starkman and Sons while we're at it. So while we've had this thread:
RFI: Savage Republic
We never did have a bit of a proper catch-all for the label, which is back in action:
http://www.independentprojectrecords.com/
And I'm lucky enough to have the first major (re)release in hand:

The two albums w/bonus tracks plus an extra demo disc from December 1987.

filtered through pre-Dark-Side Pink Floyd. Their cover of "Nile Song" is excellent.

licher's designs should be spoken of in the same lofty terms as vaughan oliver and peter saville imo
― post-op1 (electricsound), Thursday, 6 June 2013 00:28 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, I was thinking about how Licher was in ways something of a one-man combination of Saville, Tony Wilson and Bernard Sumner vis a vis his label, sorta.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 June 2013 00:55 (eleven years ago) link
absolutely.
search the 1st Savage Republic 7" (very different, before Robert Loveless left to form 17 Pygmies), obv all the later stuff too, that Abecedarians 10", all For Against, I forget what else right now.
the Neef 23 7" is not very good.

Party Boys, Human Hands, Fourwaycross
― I'll take the jangle-jangle over the throb-throb (brg30), Thursday, 6 June 2013 01:17 (eleven years ago) link
I did not know Human Hands were on the label! Never liked Fourwaycross much but I only heard the later LP which iirc was not on I.P.R.
― Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Thursday, 6 June 2013 01:22 (eleven years ago) link
OK never mind, that WAS the one I heard, on Nate Starkman. 17 Pygmies 1st EP Hatikva was also reissued by NS&S on CD, it's good but not as good as the 1st LP which is all-time for me (but was on Resistance).
― Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Thursday, 6 June 2013 01:24 (eleven years ago) link
the Autumnfair 10" is nice and dark 4AD-ish stuff. and i love all the Half String releases (since reissued by Captured Tracks in its entirety)
Alison's Halo 45 also wonderful

Is the 17 Pygmies lp with the ecstatically insane spoken word interludes by Charles whatshisname in print anywhere?

that's not the one he means, Jon is talking about the Welcome album, which is fantastic (and also out of print).
However, that double CD looks great, bonus tracks yum yum.
― Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Thursday, 6 June 2013 14:53 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, Welcome was it. And Schneider-- Charles Schneider is the madman I was trying to remember. But I will buy the hell out of that reissue Ned linked.

Gotta start somewhere.
And IN FACT...I'll be interviewing Mr. Licher in a little under an hour. So I'll get a general status update on the site and other plans.

And that was a great interview, BTW. Will let you know when it runs. Much forthcoming!

Hey all -- a little over 48 hours to go before this Kickstarter ends, and they're not quite there yet
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/p22/savage-impressions-the-book
Looks like it'll be an absolutely fantastic project all in all. Chuck in some cash if you can!

Oh that looks nice. I should pledge
― curmudgeon, Friday, 18 May 2018 19:29 (six years ago) link
You should! They're under a thousand to go now so it would help!
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 May 2018 20:53 (six years ago) link
And an update that it will be fully funded -- there's about 40 hours left to pledge or to adjust a pledge, so hey, get something, why doncha? Really looking forward to the end result.

Fun news via a mailout:
Independent Project Records (IPR) the recently relaunched record label, confirmed today that they will be reissuing expanded editions of two debut albums from their back catalog including Arizona’s experts of Shoegaze, Half String’s A Fascination With Heights (1996) and Scenic’s haunting 1995 Instrumental album Incident at Cima (1995) on September 17, 2021. Each album will be released on vinyl, compact disc and via digital services and will feature extensive bonus tracks, expanded and updated liner notes, a 24 page booklet as well as iconic letterpress printed die-cut hand-letter pressed packaging by label founder Bruce Licher. Full track listing and further details will be announced shortly and will be distributed internationally both digitally and physically on CD via Darla Records. Compact Disc and digital will be released on September 17 with the vinyl edition following later in the year.
