Now this is what you could call an ambitious poll. Tho I could be wrong and there might be hundreds of fans of this album on ILX. (I've never heard it!)

Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Saturday, 15 June 2013 11:05 (twelve years ago)

Yes, only expecting about five people and that's being optimistic but you only live once!

Tempted to vote "To My Friend Kenny McKenny" because, well, Kenny McKenny.

Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Saturday, 15 June 2013 11:48 (twelve years ago)

I was always wondered what Kenny McKenny thought of this er, friendly sounding dedication.

I would vote but the impression that no one has seems too hard to resist...

Just started playing it for the first time.

"Cage" means business.

Can't believe you haven't heard this Sund4r - you're in for a treat!

I will definitely listen to this too but probably not until after the poll closes, so still on course for zero votes... if we discount the possibility of there being Braxton lurkers out there

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Friday, 21 June 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)

I have a lot of Braxton, but this is still my favorite record of his. In a lot of ways, I don't think he's topped it. Leaning towards "Jenkins," as it informs so much of what he did later, not just in his solo work, but with his orchestra pieces especially.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

"Jenkins" is my alto jam.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 22 June 2013 01:22 (twelve years ago)

Went for "Kenny McKenny". So much of this album is about that blues cry, where you realise the blues is a noise and noise is blues. I think this track shows that more than most. Right now its the reading I am concentrating on the most.

This album cuts in a couple of other ways too - how it blurs compositon and improvisation like no other record, but then how it employs silence, then the introduction of those bizarre (almost Feynman-esque) diagrams to top it all off.

I could easily say its my favourite album.

You'd probably like Bill Dixon's solo trumpet work (best heard on his Odyssey box).

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Not bad

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Sunday, 23 June 2013 12:09 (twelve years ago)

Mr. T Goat - well, I'll d/l a couple of CDs from that box sometime. I just don't "do" box sets anymore.

More votes than I was expecting - had an idea for a follow-up, but its a record that isn't as 'iconic' (that would not get 8 votes).

See if I'm in the mood later.
