Speaking Of Old Vinyl Records, Here's My Father's Day Playlist For Tomorrow

Some great stuff on this list. This last incl. his orig claim to fame, "Four Brothers", from his time with Woody Herman, and may predate his drummerless, but certainly not arhythmic series of lineups, with pioneering sort of chamber-folk jazz, atmospheric as hell--way ahead of his time, but already right at home at the beginning of my fave concert doc, Jazz On A Summer's Day.
Luis Bonfa is best known for the theme from Black Orpheus, but I'll always love him for whatever he did to get Stan Getz so inspired on their Jazz Samba Encore!
Ann-Margaret is of course awesome, except for some godawful musicals like Viva Las Vegas (well, the title song is great) and the totally appalling Bye Bye Birdy. What could she do with that shit but through herself into it, with totally campy conviction; would've been even worse otherwise. Vinyl-wise, she had at least one deserved hit, "I Just Don't Understand" (a somewhat fucked arrangement, but she made it work much better than Birdy. The Beatles at the BBC adapts it into more of a high-lonesome waltz, but it's also effectively a tribute to A-M's focus and feel (conviction of the singing actress, staring down her vulnerable hold on pitch).
Wynn Stewart's "Another Day, Another Dollar" was so bracingly resigned in that TV commercial a few years back. Need to check out more of these.

Plus, he was then struggling with his first marriage and much else; would soon enough admit he really didn't fucking understand (during this era).

Bought myself father's day presents (cd, not vinyl, and can't be arsed to photograph) Funplex by B-52s, Curse of Blondie and Hot Rock by local rockabilly band Jack Knife and the Sharps. That last one currently $75 + on ebay; got mine for $4.95.
