Stereolab is probably my all-time favorite band. It wasn't until a few years ago that I discovered 70s library music, and it wasn't until recently that I made the connection between library music and the music of classis Sesame Street.

I guess a lot of this was written by a man named Joe Raposo. I don't know if all the songs an background music was commissioned, or licensed, but I would love to track down some of this music.
I've looked around online and on file sharing networks and I can only find the more straightforward kids' songs (I Love Trash etc.). Does anyone know where I can discover more of this Children's Television Workshop music?

Raposo is a genius for sure. There was a nice little documentary on life that ran on public television in 1990, don't know how available it is. I remember it well because it ran, by chance, on the very day Jim Henson died.

Anyway if you plug his name into YouTube you'll get all KINDS of things. And here's the IMDB listing for the documentary if you want to look for it.

His official site is fairly barebones; mostly exists for licensing purposes (understandably enough), but the slideshow is sweet enough.

Raposo's Wikipedia entry is also worth the read through. I knew Sinatra enjoyed his work, but I hadn't realized the full extent.

I would guess you might have to roll your own from the Sesame Street Old School DVDs. Like people used to do with Carl Stalling's stuff, taping the audio off TV before those compilations came out.

A lot of the music I wound up liking most as an adult sounds strikingly like the music in the Sesame Street and Mr Rogers of my childhood.

Love the Rhodes and Mellotron in the milk song.
This is a good song, too:

While this clip doesn't echo the Stereolab examples cited above, it's certainly worthy of mention for it's tone and delivery....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv58qiMgGvY
