The JCM period is probably the most nostalgic for me, but JM has some amazing highs.

John C > JCM (might've won but has to be penalized for including Big Daddy) > Johnny C > JM

By Big Daddy, JCM was getting too serious. But I love the 3 albums before that one, so I voted for it. Now, as JM he's even dismissing his JCM stuff in interviews.
The JC years are close though.

JCM, although the 2005 two-disc comp warmed to the JC stuff before American Fool.

I like quite a few JM songs: "Get a Leg Up," "Jackie Brown," the Van Morrison cover, "Again Tonight."

"Jackie Brown" (the only thing I liked on Big Daddy, save for the "CD bonus cut" cover of the Hombres' "Let It All Hang Out") was technically still JCM though, right? Only JM-era song I've loved is the seemingly Nelly-inspired "Peaceful World." Agree some of those albums have isolated tolerable moments, though -- I actually thought his 2003 blues album Trouble No More was pretty good for a few months there. Still like his early fake stuff way, way more though.

oh wait i guess that falls under John C?

From the JM years, "What if I Came Knockin'" and "Human Wheels" from the Human Wheels album are two of my favorites, and of course "Last Chance" from Whenever We Wanted.

whoever did rain on the scarecrow because i saw it at the same time as children of the corn and basically that's what it reminds me of
check out the guy on the left who is never allowed to talk, but cracks up at the end. i wonder if he was the real farmer and the other two were actors?

Can we get a sort of hybrid version from "Nothing Matters" to "Lonesome Jubilee" and a couple of tracks off of "Big Daddy?" That's basically Peak Cougarmelon.

"Again Tonight" is the song they play at Progressive Field whenever the Indians win a game.

I love two small details in the recording of "Rain on the Scarecrow" and I think really give's it an edge: the lower growly sounding backup vocal in the chorus and banging on that bell in the background with hammer.

this is tough.

half of lonesome jubileee + half of scarecrow VS 3/4 of human wheels + "love and happiness"

Gonna throw John C. a vote off the strength of "Ain't Even Done With The Night"

JCM, but a handful of JC tunes are better. But the first three albums as JCM are stunners.

One person made John very, very happy, and one person made John very, very confused.

"nothing matters and what if it did" is such an "i am america and so can you" title

I wish he'd tried a Fables of the Reconstruction type reversible title.
