Is the idea to write something based on what the title inspires? Or are people supposed to find the tracks ahead of time?

the "keep it to the original length" thing really only made sense in the context of the ludicrously long Lulu songs, which added to the hilarious surreality of the song titles

Was there ever a 'precover x in the style of x' rule? I've only ever heard one NIN track to my knowledge, so I'd be totally making it up if that was the case here.

There's been no 'in the style of' rule, and AFAIK the track length restriction was only for the Loutallica album. These pre-cover albums have been pretty much 'do whatever you feel like' otherwise.

i think i came up with the original idea for the precovers albums and it was basically just about taking a song title and being inspired by it. you aren't necessarily supposed to sound like the band, the time limit thing was just for LULU (though i thought it added a fun wrinkle) - it's just about using the song title as a jumping-off point and seeing what you end up with.
