Bee OK, Thursday, 27 June 2013 01:30 (twelve years ago)

What a year! Some of my favorite records from some of my favorite artists. Had to go for Station To Station just a nose (ahem) ahead of Ramones debut, Aerosmith's Rocks, Dylan's Desire and Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 27 June 2013 01:34 (twelve years ago)

Such a great year (especially when you throw in Einstein on the Beach, Presence, Agents of Fortune, and Dreamboat Annie). Hejira is one of my favourite things ever and it still doesn't get an instant vote because Oxygene is up there. I'll have to think.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 27 June 2013 01:39 (twelve years ago)

I really like all of these:

3 104 Eagles - Hotel California
6 352 Aerosmith - Rocks
8 497 Joni Mitchell - Hejira
9 646 Boston - Boston
1005 Rush - 2112
17 1039 Blondie - Blondie
20 1145 Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive!
26 1341 Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygène

and there a bunch more that I haven't heard all the way through but that I'm sure I'd like, based on what I do know from them.

Things really dropped off in the next two years, based on these lists.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 27 June 2013 01:41 (twelve years ago)

*there are a bunch more (Stevie, Modern Lovers, Bowie, Thin Lizzy)

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 27 June 2013 01:42 (twelve years ago)

for me it is between Ramones, Songs in the Key of Life or The Modern Lovers.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 June 2013 01:48 (twelve years ago)

would have voted for Steely Dan for the second year in a row if it would have been an option.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 June 2013 01:49 (twelve years ago)

I know it will get few, if any, besides mine, votes, but Silk Degrees is a pretty great album. And yes this is another awesome year.

jetfan, Thursday, 27 June 2013 02:04 (twelve years ago)

Easy (Rawks!)

rattled, Thursday, 27 June 2013 02:24 (twelve years ago)

Songs in the Key of Life will probably get my vote just ahead of The Modern Lovers.

Sad to see Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band isn't listed, I might have gone with that.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 27 June 2013 02:25 (twelve years ago)

Ramones, but a slightly less enthusiastic vote than for Leave Home last time. I'd never heard of the Ramones in 1976: would have voted for Rocks or Destroyer or A New World Record at the time.

clemenza, Thursday, 27 June 2013 02:49 (twelve years ago)

modern lovers ftw. (and my fb "cover" image is that bad news bears photo.)

paula deezen (get bent), Thursday, 27 June 2013 02:59 (twelve years ago)

super ape

well-composed selfie (Matt P), Thursday, 27 June 2013 03:04 (twelve years ago)

Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band was number 41. know nothing about that album myself...

several xpost

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 June 2013 03:06 (twelve years ago)

would've voted africa brasil, kinda awesome to see KISS and steve miller band make the top 26 (seems like arrival's high placing might be due to similar cause - token cw 'best album' by massively popular act), love silk degrees, love station to station, love modern lovers, love rocks, love hejira, voted frampton.

balls, Thursday, 27 June 2013 04:03 (twelve years ago)

this isn't as good of a selection as the 77 one in my opinion. voted modern lovers because someday i too want to be dignified and old.

Treeship, Thursday, 27 June 2013 05:13 (twelve years ago)

Stevie or get thee farthest fuck out

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 June 2013 05:27 (twelve years ago)

is that Boz Scaggs album good? it never occurred to me that he has songs other than "Lowdown" (which is an all-time jam obv)

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 June 2013 05:29 (twelve years ago)

Don't really like many of these all that much. Voted For Joni, runners up for me are Bowie and Lee Perry.

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 27 June 2013 06:40 (twelve years ago)

Ramones is obviously awesome but also something I'm almost never in the mood to listen to.

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 27 June 2013 06:41 (twelve years ago)

word. if I'm in the mood to listen to the Ramones I'm probably just going to listen to Flockaveli instead

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 June 2013 06:48 (twelve years ago)

Ramones.

zonal, Thursday, 27 June 2013 06:49 (twelve years ago)

Is that Steve Miller album any good?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 27 June 2013 07:25 (twelve years ago)

yeah this is the weakest list of the four so far. tempted to vote "Hotel California" because the title track is all time, but the rest of it is awful. so gonna go with Joni.

my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Thursday, 27 June 2013 08:21 (twelve years ago)

I think 1976 might be my least favourite year of the the decade for albums, either this or 1970.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 27 June 2013 08:28 (twelve years ago)

plenty of favorites. Modern Lovers, Station to Station, Warren Zevon, Super Ape, Howlin Wind, Blackheart Man, Silk Degrees...

would have voted for Buzzard, as it is I'm going with teh Boz

g simmel, Thursday, 27 June 2013 08:37 (twelve years ago)

modern lovers

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 27 June 2013 08:37 (twelve years ago)

Top 5:

Bowie
Flamin' Groovies
Thin Lizzy
Aerosmith
Upsetters

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 27 June 2013 10:55 (twelve years ago)

Super Ape
2112
Station to Station

Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 27 June 2013 13:55 (twelve years ago)

I like quite a few of these, but the spaceship on the s/t Boston cover destroys the rest of the earthbound field (including Kiss on their rubble heap)

Johnny Hotcox, Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:27 (twelve years ago)

great year. especially love these:

Ramones - Ramones
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Kiss - Destroyer
The Upsetters - Super Ape
Rush - 2112

had to go with stevie

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:31 (twelve years ago)

i sort of agree with Kitchen Person and think this is sort of a weaker year for the '70s.

Bee OK, Friday, 28 June 2013 02:10 (twelve years ago)

Listened to about half of Songs in the Key of Life. It sounds amazing.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 June 2013 02:20 (twelve years ago)

"hospital" is sort of a masterpiece on its own. the best artistic expression of the "nice guy" complex ever, and made stranger and more memorable by the fact that it is never clear, really, whether richmann realizes how badly his narrator comes across. really deranged song, full of grandiose self-pity, and played totally straight without any kind of indication of self-awareness.

Treeship, Friday, 28 June 2013 02:32 (twelve years ago)

voted for keys. ramones would be my second choice.

brimstead, Friday, 28 June 2013 03:04 (twelve years ago)

man this is tough.

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 June 2013 03:08 (twelve years ago)

between Jailbreak, Rocks, and Key of Life for me

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 June 2013 03:09 (twelve years ago)

this is going to be the last one for awhile, going to take off for July 4th.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 June 2013 23:58 (twelve years ago)

Bowie

WilliamC, Sunday, 30 June 2013 00:02 (twelve years ago)

silk degrees forever and for all time

ciderpress, Sunday, 30 June 2013 00:22 (twelve years ago)

This is Station To Station so much it isn't even funny.

I wanna live like C'MOWN! people (Turrican), Sunday, 30 June 2013 00:40 (twelve years ago)

thin lizzy

some dude, Sunday, 30 June 2013 00:44 (twelve years ago)

xp station to station is a close second for me. i can't pick bowie for every year he released an album though.

Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the (Treeship), Sunday, 30 June 2013 02:14 (twelve years ago)

Silk Degrees, easy. I would even vote for it over 2112 because it is clearly the best Boz Scaggs album while 2112 is doesn't rank as high for me in the Rush pantheon as some of their other classics.

Moodles, Sunday, 30 June 2013 02:28 (twelve years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 1 July 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

Rocks, over Station To Station.

Probably the worst year for music out of the entire 1970s.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 1 July 2013 01:32 (twelve years ago)

lots of middling albums, voted Super Ape because it's the only one I still enjoy listening to occasionally

agnosy, Monday, 1 July 2013 02:35 (twelve years ago)

He's not gonna win, but I needed to make sure that Warren Zevon didn't go voteless. That's the album that Hotel California would have been if it knew how.

Emerson, Hendricks, and Nash (SlimAndSlam), Monday, 1 July 2013 02:46 (twelve years ago)

For those who have never heard it. Go toYou Tube and search for Silk Degrees. The whole album can be streamed there.

jetfan, Monday, 1 July 2013 02:51 (twelve years ago)

finally decided to go with The Modern Lovers.

Bee OK, Monday, 1 July 2013 15:37 (twelve years ago)

good choice. i'll send over a bottle of champagne.

Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the (Treeship), Monday, 1 July 2013 15:40 (twelve years ago)

Modern Lovers just ahead of Bowie for me, tough choice though. Love Blondie's debut so much.

New Authentic Everybootsy Collins (Dan Peterson), Monday, 1 July 2013 15:51 (twelve years ago)

is that Boz Scaggs album good? it never occurred to me that he has songs other than "Lowdown" (which is an all-time jam obv)

― The Reverend, Thursday, June 27, 2013 1:29 AM (4 days ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Yes. It is v v good indeed and got my vote.

Thelema & Louise (Jon Lewis), Monday, 1 July 2013 15:57 (twelve years ago)

Voted Stevie here just ahead of Modern Lovers. Tough poll.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Monday, 1 July 2013 16:35 (twelve years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the (Treeship), Tuesday, 2 July 2013 00:04 (twelve years ago)

i did not see this one coming.

going to have to check out that Boz Scaggs, who knew?

Bee OK, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 01:35 (twelve years ago)

do it. it's good stuff.

Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the (Treeship), Tuesday, 2 July 2013 02:03 (twelve years ago)

Like I posted earlier, You Tube has the whole Boz album. Just search Silk Degrees. Good stuff.

jetfan, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 02:24 (twelve years ago)

ok I'm officially going to have to flag everyone's posts who didn't vote for stevie this shit is inexcusable

The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 06:03 (twelve years ago)

I still need to listen to that album.

Romantic style in da world (crüt), Tuesday, 2 July 2013 06:07 (twelve years ago)

yah same here

my super-power is to turn into a bowling ball (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 21:35 (twelve years ago)

i'm glad 'ramones' exists but it's easily my least favorite of the first four albums, i never feel like hearing any of it apart from 'judy is a punk.'

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 21:39 (twelve years ago)

No-one really said anything nice yet about The Bunny Wailer album, but that thing is great, some really solid roots tunes on that one.

Filk Hollins (NickB), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 21:49 (twelve years ago)

dunno why that t went and got all uppity and capitalized

Filk Hollins (NickB), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 21:50 (twelve years ago)

I'm the Bob Seger vote. It's got "Sunspot Baby" and "Mainstreet", and next to Destroyer, it's probably the one I remember best as a complete album.

Other favorite songs from this list "Detroit Rock City", "Lido Shuffle", "Last Child", "Coyote", "Sir Duke", "Shake Some Action", "X Offender", "Take the Money and Run", "American Girl", "Hitch a Ride", "Mohammed's Radio", "Golden Years", "I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement", "Knowing Me, Knowing You"

Good year.
