So the video for google google apps apps showed up on my Facebook feed and yes it is odd and kind of awesome:
http://youtu.be/5xyqbc7SQ4w
But in digging for more info on this whole deal I think I'm more fascinated by the director VAINHEIN who may or may not be several other people in several other videos by this same sort of collective Bay Area drag punk something?
For example, I have watched this video about 50 times so far
http://youtu.be/7d9EuoZsr8Q
Which appears to be a chopped and screwed version of some song by a band called huski that I know nothing about, but is one of the coolest and creepiest things I've run across in a long time. Then there are live performances, and some terrifying rubber mask videos for a song called pussy juice and so on. Idk, maybe it's all bullshit. Maybe you have all been talking abt these peeps somewhere else. I find it intriguing, so tell me what you know ILM.

Uh haha do you have headphones? You need headphones.
Actually the second video would be fine if you don't mind creeping out your office mates somewhat. I think

Second video is totally safe

that second video is very reminiscent in execution of a theater piece I saw in college where a woman delivered a disjointed, seemingly stream-of consciousness 20 minute monologue while sitting on a stool with a tiny spotlight focused only on her lips. Said spotlight was in a fixed location so she had to stay as still as was physically possible, which still meant she shifted around a little bit and the spotlight would slowly creep around her face, centering back on her mouth occasionally but oftentimes wandering up to her nose, then across her cheek and back down to her chin, with enough ambient splash that you could still see her lips moving as she delivered the monologue. It was pretty intense.

I am starting to think this is a private obsession, but man, I keep watching that undertow video. Anything else out there like this (song or video or w/e) that people can tell me about?

There's also a def disconnect between that and the first video. Live in Salt Lake City thing is also totally baffling.

Ok and so VEINHEIN is also lukey b, but also VEINHEIN is a character played by multiple people and huh the further I get into this the more confused I get. Also maybe I should have put this on ILE. Or ITR.

It's not just you. It's very entrancing. The music gives me depeche mode/planningtorock vibes, but the video seems more in line with Raya Light grotesque drag or Shaye St. John internet weirdness. I saw someone open for Mykki Blanco in SF last year who did a performance fairly similar to that SLC clip. If you want more spooky drag mixed with damaged electronic music you can check out Xina Xurner, but they're a lot less mysterious and a lot harsher.

Now begins my failed attempt to make VEINHEIN live in SLC crash into the ilx 2013 top songs countdown.

Man, even without the video I keep coming back to this song. It's very reminiscent of something from ten or more years ago, but I can't put my finger on it.

So I tagged along with some friends to a queer singer/songwriter night at a cocktail bar a couple blocks from our building and one of the acts turned out to be San Cha from Daddie$Pla$tik singing some acoustic songs with Vain Hain (had knuckle tats of his name) singing falsetto backup. Only 3 or 4 songs but it was raw punkrock acoustic confessional stuff. Only got to talk to them briefly on the way out but Daddie$Pla$tik is playing down the street in a week. Will report.
