This is a pretty great and fun compilation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scared_to_Get_Happy:_A_Story_of_Indie-Pop_1980-1989

I'm a fan of most of this stuff and there's plenty of nice surprises (along with a handful of duds).

I don't know if it's the Nuggets of indiepop, as the compiler aspired to, but it's got a special place on my racks for sure.

decent enough tracklisting but favouring the obscure track over the better track not always a great idea (eg solace is one of the dullest sea urchins tracks imo and bodines would be better served with skankin queens if they absolutely can't bear to put therese on it)

In the liner notes, the compiler explained that he tried not to repeat tracks from the CD86 and Rough Trade: Indiepop 1 comps, and that for some bands who released only a single or two he chose the track that had been comp'd less often.

Robert Frost wrote a poem about that.

totally fair enough though there does seem to be a bit of a lack of consistency in that sense. anyway it's not really a big deal.

Eh tbf "Therese" is on a few other comps I have (which confuses me - I thought they were on Creation?). Id quite like to obtain this if I could afford to, as I dont really own any of these singles.

Oh, "Everybody's Problem" by Pulp. They'll love that...

I thought the Nuggets of indiepop was the Sound of Leamington Spa series?

The Sound of Leamington Spa comps are pretty lousy IMO. Don't like the sound most of the bands were going for, which is mostly sort of bland Lloyd Cole type AOR stuff iirc.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Monday, 15 July 2013 15:57 (twelve years ago)

This looks like it'd be right up my street, think I know about 15 of these songs (I like almost all of them) and know plenty more of the bands but not necessarily the songs on this comp.

Girls At Our Best at #2 had me hooked immediately, I can't get enough of them atm

But this cant all be deep cuts, I'd have thought that the likes of 'getting nowhere fast', 'nerve pylon', 'shine on' would be pretty much the only songs by those bands that ever get chosen for comps
