it's OK, i'm hoping that with only 11 tracks that maybe he might have made a great album again.

haven't really loved him since Skeletal Lamping. the last two i could never really get into as i have had in the past.

Really excited for this. Some of their early stuff is amazing and this seems to be going in a new direction so at leas that's something.

Also, is this going to be OM's equivalent to Deerhunter's Monomania?

Inspired by Dylan, the Stones, Neil Young, and more, Lousy with Sylvianbriar was created with a new songwriting approach, a different recording method, and a fresh group of musicians.

Recorded live to a 24-track tape machine during a frenetic three week period in Kevin Barnes' home studio, Lousy with Sylvianbriar is a throwback to early of Montreal albums and contains callbacks of an even earlier time.

"I knew I wanted the process to be more in line with the way people used to make albums in the late 60s and early 70s," reveals Barnes.

"I wanted to work fast and to maintain a high level of spontaneity and immediacy. I wanted the songs to be more lyric-driven, and for the instrumental arrangements to be understated and uncluttered."

That single is alright. At least not as actively offputting as some of the recent albums. That bad rubberstamp cloning on the grass under the bike is driving me nuts though.

Suddenly Of Montreal wouldn't be out of place next to Cass McCombs in a mix with this new material...

i have really liked what i have heard so far, this is great news.

Oh well it's more that hissing fauna sent them on that trajectory until now. This one is closest in sound to satanic but is still much much more restrained. Satanic has always been closest to me, and this one is so measured and laid back especially for Of Montreal but its exactly where my had is at currently. The Of Montreal of hissing fauna through the last album is very far from my preferences in music these days so I was not prepared to like any new albums by them.

I was SO not interested in their last record... and False Priest was a def drop from Skeletal and Hissing too. Thought they bit it.

Going back to Paralytic Stalks now, I kinda like it too.
Maybe they just wore me out for a minute?

I can't get into this one. Just feels really flat compared to his last few albums.

I'm with silverfish on this one. Not my thing. Just has nothing appealing for me in the opposite way Paralytic had waaay too much stuff going on.

the first song is hella E6-y, almost sounds like a unicorns song actually

paralytic stalks was an interesting left-turn for the entirety of indie rock. one of the most interesting left-turns. this is not a left-turn, this is a clumsy barge thru those dismal saloon doors marked 'get back to your roots, they're authentic!!'

I kind of like this album now. It's still a pretty big disappointment though, coming off a pretty amazing run of albums.
