I apologise in advance for being a complete twunt...

You connect to what we call "The Internet", and proceed to find the song using a "Browser", or more specifically a "search engine" like "google", you then "right click" the song and select "save to disk" and play in your "media player".

Glad to be of service, and have a nice day.

I'd never heard of Las Ketchup before this thread. I googled them myself, and found this news story claiming that they're going to go to number 1 in the UK, whoever they are. I feel really old now.

I wouldn't mind if this song was a huge US hit. It's catchy as hell, and I love that the refrain sorta psychs the listener out by stretching the phrase out a few bars longer than you might expect (and ending in the beginning of the next musical "idea") (but the melody itself is so beautifully simple!), and repeats the phrase in descending keys several times during the chorus. And the hypnotic, booty-shaking rhythm, and the heavenly vocals, and the corny pseudo-rockabilly guitar... CLASSIC.

I love the fact that it's just "Rapper's Delight." I hope it's a hit as well.

Aaron W, Thursday, 10 October 2002 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

the version in portuguese Rouge did actually samples Rappers Delight

The Dirty Vicar to thread!

I think he's still in search of similar delights in The Lebanon.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 11 October 2002 08:52 (twenty-three years ago)

this is seen as utter crap in spain. it's so stupid. i love the fact that it starts off as the rappers delight, too.
the chorus doesn't have any sense (not that the lyrics have any sense either, but at least they're sung in understandable spanish).
it's funny how a listener without any prejudices can rate this song as a Classic. did you also like "macarena" by los del rio? i think this is exactly the same thing.

joan vich (joan vich), Friday, 11 October 2002 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

from chicago tribune:

"After all that we've been through, with Sept. 11 and the tragedies, people just want to dance and be happy,” said Charlie Walk, Sony's vice president for radio. "The song doesn't say much or mean much, but it certainly makes people smile".

this is so pathetic.

joan vich (joan vich), Friday, 11 October 2002 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

(I doubt very much whether these people have heard 'Rapper's Delight')

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 11 October 2002 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Have a guess ;-)

"Without prejudices." Yes, I am a complete dolt. Forgive me for liking a great pop song that happens to have lyrics in Spanish -- it'll never happen again.

What about the scene with the grandma in the Wedding Singer. I'm sure that plenty of "those people" have seen Adam Sandler's ouvre.

But seriously... you'll be happier if you get past the holier-than-thou attitude of hating utterly disposable pop music. Perhaps the reason that you hate it, because it's instantly gauche, is the exact reason certain of us like it.

Anyway, I also like such songs as Aqua's "Barbie Girl" and Taco's "Puttin' on the Ritz," to name a couple off the top of my head.

Aaron W., Friday, 11 October 2002 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't hate it, I'm biggying it up. By 'these people' I mean the Ketchup girls and whoever wrote the song (their dad, I think). I am defending them from accusations of plagiarism. Yes, they might have seen that film (I haven't). I didn't mean to sound disrespectful to them. Also, I suspect 'Rapper's Delight' was scorned in much the same way back in the block party era.

Gotchas... I guess my ire was more directed at Joan. Actually, I don't know where my ire came from. It's all good. Now, more importantly, which one is the cutest? The blonde, redhead, or brunette?

Aaron W., Friday, 11 October 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

in the 2 videos for aserejé, she ain't a blonde! that picture is misleading

btw I much prefer the beach party video to the video with the "bouncing ball"-style subtitles (there's no ball, but you know what I mean)

zebedee, Friday, 11 October 2002 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

First, an apology: apparently it *is* based on 'Rapper's Delight', so I take back everything I said. Except... I think this information is gleaned from Time Magazine (I read it in the article that decorated the photo in a Spanish newspaper) who might not be telling the truth. The story here was that somebody had made up a rap and his daughters couldn't pronounce the words properly, so he wrote down their version - hey presto! Aserejé! I thought it was Daddy Ketchup, but come to think of it, is daughters wouldn't have much trouble pronouncing stuff because they are grown up. Not that it matters much...

In his defence, Joan has had a lot more time to get sick of it.

I'd prefer to leave which one do you fancy until Dirty Vicar gets back. (I like the one with ratty split ends.)

wot? thats the best video of the year, subtitles so you can sing with the chorus, absolutely fucking perfect

vic (vicc13), Friday, 11 October 2002 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Today I went to the ridiculous length of actually listening to 'Rapper's Delight' (all the way through!) and the similarities are undeniable.

Also they were on the telly saying how that's what peple do in Andalucia when a song's got a complicated chorus in English - just make up something similar sounding.

Sadly, they also said they had no intention of making a career in music, so make the most of them while you can.

faiza, Thursday, 29 April 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, this song is old

there was even talk of it having some sort of 'occult'/devil-worshippy kinda meaning or twist to it, kicked up some mild dust if i remember correctly

but all in all, a fun song IMO...god knows i've danced drunkenly to it a few times
