Bucket Full of Teeth

Both really escape from the boring potential of this kind of music.

What do you think?

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm kind of interested in what became of all the Slap-A-Ham style powerviolence bands from a few years ago. Are people still doing this sort of thing? My favorite was Gasp.

yeah... the whole grindcore bit's been trolling along for some time...

along the lines of cwv, palatka, asshole parade, and end of the century party live taught cwv where to go... or at least that's what it came down to in the florida scene... palatka pretty much sit as most memorable to me (and i've seen all of those bands several times...)

bucket full of teeth... that's more screamo hardcore-ish no? members of orchid and so on...

i'd check out dillinger escape plan's "calculating infinity" ... reversal of man... in/humanity ... his hero is gone... the swing kids...

if you want more power-violence type stuff... try the hair police... harry pussy... early black dice... melt banana

i dunno... like you said... it's easy to go so aggro that you eventually yawn at every and anything. the logical conclusion of "LET'S FUCK SHIT UP!!!" eventually falls apart.

i dig on it... but it's definitely something to be taken lightly and very occasionally...

i heard combatwoundedvetran got slow. assuck were faster than them live anyways - at least during the 98 tour.

best grind band was mexican power authority who i don't think are around anymore. they had flutes and clarinet and everything but were totally fast.

circle of dead children _the genocide machine_
- fairly straight ahead ugh-ugh grunt 'brutality'

gasp _drome triler_
- awesomely fucked up stuff on slap-a-ham, psychedelic damage

asterisk
- in general - pretty deranged shit, someone described them to me as 'grind meets shellac', which is somewhat accurate

burmese _burmese_
clotted symmetric sexual organ

one of my favorite releases lately is a CDR bootleg of an album by the japanese band confuse - it's from 86 or so, proto-grind hardcore stuff with production so fucked up it renders the music an eardrum damaging white noise blast.

thekevorkiansolution / orthrelm / flying luttenbachers

bob snoom, Wednesday, 9 October 2002 09:33 (twenty-three years ago)

wow, so i'm not the only one who bought that kevorkian solution cd. funny old world.

racing_the_tide (racing_the_tide), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

one of those confused songs sound like you're listening to them practice while you're in the shower in an nearby room.

chris smith, Wednesday, 9 October 2002 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, exactly chris!!!

your null fame (yournullfame), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

yfn, where can i get this confused cdr?

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

oh fuck. i got it from some hardcore mailorder place - i found it by searching on google; it's called "indignation". supposedly there's a significantly more l33t bootleg actual CD release that collects all of their stuff in one handy package; i've never seen it, though.

if you're on soulseek, hit me up (id: rankingmonkey) and i'll rip it for you, or i can burn you a copy or something... i'll be at terrastock til monday, though.

new kevorkian solution cd: hmm i don't know what to make of it - they're less grindy & more spastic, the production is cleaner but seems to have emasculated the dynamic. non sequitors still present and the "techno" interludes are so much better than you might expect (not crusty goth dub industrial crap). there is something new hinted at towards the end of the cd kinda like "tuneful" spasms - i'd like to see where they go from here but i'm not sure i''m satisfied with the new cd as it stands, as much as i want to stand up for the guys. baaah- -cost me peanuts anyhow.

Bathtub Shitter a lot better than I expected, given the name

looking for Mon in Alderaan places (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 17:22 (five years ago)

Yeah, they're surprisingly musical.

shared unit of analysis (unperson), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 21:06 (five years ago)

I also discovered that I like Kill the Client, and previously underrated ND's "Time Waits for No Slave"

looking for Mon in Alderaan places (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 24 December 2019 21:12 (five years ago)

Kill the Client were fantastic. I got to see them live (along with Wormrot) at South by Southwest in 2011.

does anybody listen to Ripped to Shreds? fucking love them.

they have that buzzsaw Dismember guitar tone, but their riffs are mega memorable and have clarity, and they're also pro-BLM which made me throw a few extra dollars their way.

Nope, but if they even remotely sound like Dismember I'll check 'em out.

pomenitul, Monday, 8 June 2020 01:19 (five years ago)

they don't really outside of the production, but it's really good stuff nonetheless.

four years pass...

so, been trying to find more 80s crust punk/hardcore/proto-grind/early grindcore to listen to, specifically the stuff from UK. stuff like Siege, Heresy, Sore Throat, Unseen Terror, etc, but the google lists I've looked at always wanna suggest like 90s/21st century grind. I've been told to check out Infest as well as S.O.B., anybody have any other suggestions?

blast beats a plus, and again, doesn't have to be actual grind/grind, but perhaps the stuff that influenced it or was close to grind

Riposte Malone (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 January 2025 16:11 (nine months ago)

mostly 90s and beyond stuff though on that thread. felt like i should link it anyway.

for 80s, go to finland. riistetyt. appendix. rattus. etc.

Colonel Poo, Monday, 6 January 2025 21:28 (nine months ago)

Poo I knew you'd be the dictionary I was looking for. thanks!

Riposte Malone (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 January 2025 21:46 (nine months ago)

I love Disrupt

Riposte Malone (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 January 2025 21:46 (nine months ago)

most of that is more grind-adjacent tbh, rather than wall-to-wall blastbeats, but the UK bands in particular were basically the same scene as the bands you listed

Colonel Poo, Monday, 6 January 2025 21:49 (nine months ago)

Yeah, Disrupt were great, also try Totalitär from Sweden:

good call. another Swedish band who get mentioned on "fastest hardcore band" lists is Asocial

Colonel Poo, Monday, 6 January 2025 22:11 (nine months ago)

Asocial were cool. so many cool Swedish bands.

also, just in case someone hasn't heard it. one of the granddaddies like siege and deep wound.

I finally got a copy of the Siege discography last year on FOAD records. Italian label that reissues shit loads of stuff like this

Colonel Poo, Monday, 6 January 2025 22:22 (nine months ago)

MOB 47
ANTI CIMEX

brimstead, Tuesday, 7 January 2025 02:25 (nine months ago)

If I really really like the Internal Rot album Mental Hygiene, what other grind should I check out?

brimstead, Tuesday, 7 January 2025 02:26 (nine months ago)

Oh and also xp

CRUDE SS

brimstead, Tuesday, 7 January 2025 02:27 (nine months ago)

i grew up on discordance axis era grind and don’t know a lot of the older stuff well. if i like terrorizer, assuck, and metal riffs a lot, where should i go?

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Tuesday, 7 January 2025 04:00 (nine months ago)

Rotten Sound, Mortalized, Kill The Client, Wormrot, Phobia

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Tuesday, 7 January 2025 04:36 (nine months ago)

hell yeah, all of those bands are sick. but i’m familiar with em since i did keep up, just didn’t really go back too much… any 80s/early 90s stuff that scratches this kinda itch? (sorry if that wasn’t clear, was inspired by the revive)

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Tuesday, 7 January 2025 05:08 (nine months ago)

Fuckin love Doom, exactly what I was looking for.
