Apparently, mine's just been despatched!
― Mark G, Monday, 29 July 2013 22:32 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, ordered it yonks ago thanks to that thread. "Son of Dracula" seems to have got missed out, but I've got the l.p. So I might burn a copy and add it myself..

Remix albums or EPs like Aerial Pandemonium Ballet are commonplace nowadays, but who but Nilsson was putting out remix LPs in 1971? I'm hard pressed to think of an earlier one.
― Lee626, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 03:44 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, mine arrived today.
It was £46 all told (with P&P)
― Mark G, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 12:26 (twelve years ago)
I have been searching for and not finding (either online or on vinyl) the 4-channel/quadraphonic mix of Pussy Cats, which had different mixes and takes, including earlier recordings of the vocals on "Many Rivers to Cross" and "Don't Forget Me" made before he damaged his voice. I'm hoping these are on the box set somewhere.
― Lee626, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 13:09 (twelve years ago)
Fraid not:
Some not-released songs that were on the Buddah/Buddha (whichever) CD issue, and some demos/radio spots.
― Mark G, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 13:54 (twelve years ago)
By any chance, are there any different takes or alternate versions of Salmon Falls (off Duit on Mon Dei)?
― c21m50nh3x460n, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 17:59 (twelve years ago)
mmmmmm cool
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 30 July 2013 18:06 (twelve years ago)
Got this today, loving the Knillsson bonus tracks - mostly Harry singing blues with Dr. John on the piano, but they also play a beautiful version of All I Think About Is You.

amazon uk says mine's in the mail; eagerly awaiting it. £41.51 all told.
― fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 21:17 (twelve years ago)
LOL, I instantly delete any emails i get from Amazon so, on reading this thread, had to go back and retrieve from the deleted folder the email telling me I'd be getting my copy on Friday.

Harry Nilsson Stars...
― Mark G, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 12:41 (twelve years ago)
got mine!
this is the first and most likely the last negative thing i will say: the packaging is flimsy. the individual discs are in slipcase replicas of the original album art, which is nice, but they're really really cheap slipcases. the liner notes are two cursory paragraphs about each album, nothing more. the individual song credits appear thorough.
i'll get back to you on the music in or around 2018, when i'm done taking it all in.
― fact checking cuz, Monday, 5 August 2013 08:31 (twelve years ago)
Yeah it's a bit of a cheapo package all in all but the music's what really matters I suppose.
― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Sunday, 18 August 2013 12:49 (twelve years ago)
That kind of goes with the territory re:contemporary "Complete Albums/Works/Recordings" sets.
― Uncle Cyril O'Boogie (C. Grisso/McCain), Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:19 (twelve years ago)
Trade-off: I probably would not have bought it if it had been £80 or more, so flimsy package is fair enough (I call it 'compact'), and there's always the book (and wikip) for more detail..
(Now to CD-R my "Son of Dracula" soundtrack
― Mark G, Sunday, 18 August 2013 16:09 (twelve years ago)
.. Going to have to, "Daybreak" isn't on this box set at all!
― Mark G, Thursday, 22 August 2013 16:36 (twelve years ago)
... uhhhhhhh, it's a bonus on the "Son of Schmilsson" CD (you had me worried there, I must admit)
― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 12:54 (twelve years ago)
Ahh, thanks!
I did dig out the "Drac" soundtrack anyway, listened to the first 2 tracks last night. (It still has the 'iron-on' t-shirt decal in the envelope, I daresay that most of them did not get done)
― Mark G, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 13:14 (twelve years ago)
His take on "Campo de Encino" is really really nice. I discovered it last week and I think I might have had that song on repeat for an hour straight.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 14:39 (twelve years ago)
Webb tells a great story about Nilsson and "Campo De Encino" on this:

Late to the party but this set is an embarrassment of riches. Slowly listening to it with the kids as I haul them around.
Halfway through it after a few months and I land on “Campo De Encino” and wow
Never heard the original, I had to look it up to know it was Jimmy Webb.
I’m almost done with Nilsson: The Life of a Singer-Songwriter by Alyn Shipton which is a good easy read. Favorite Nilsson quote, during a moment of sobriety in his later years: “I knew there were two ten o’clocks, but I didn’t realize how nice the early one is.”
