Remember! The cormorant is a big brrd. It has got a long neck. (unregistered), Saturday, 3 August 2013 22:34 (twelve years ago)

markers, Saturday, 3 August 2013 22:36 (twelve years ago)

Musette vs Donimo vs Frou-Frou

went with Frou-Frou

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 3 August 2013 22:51 (twelve years ago)

musette and drums

OutdoorFish, Saturday, 3 August 2013 22:52 (twelve years ago)

Would smash any of these pretty much.

Tim F, Saturday, 3 August 2013 23:04 (twelve years ago)

not sure "thinner the air" works best as a closer, but it is my fav song here

een, Saturday, 3 August 2013 23:19 (twelve years ago)

Duh-mino amirite

How I miss Bimble.

A bee in her hair. (Dr. Joseph A. Ofalt), Sunday, 4 August 2013 00:23 (twelve years ago)

Musette and Drums would make a great opener.....Went with Donimo.

I'll take the jangle-jangle over the throb-throb (brg30), Sunday, 4 August 2013 02:18 (twelve years ago)

^^ yes, very much.

Ridiculously good list, but I will have to go for Ella. Not just one of their greatest songs, but in terms of closers, also perfectly wrapping up a perfect album.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 4 August 2013 02:20 (twelve years ago)

That was an xp

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 4 August 2013 02:21 (twelve years ago)

musette and drums.

but, i HATE cocteau twins album closers. this is because i hate it when cocteau twins albums end.

sometimes, i don't feel like i've ever heard "musette" or "donimo" etc. i spite these songs, and hate it when they arrive, and this is because i know the album will soon be over. (and yes, r.i.p. bimble)

little belgium (boy_slayer), Sunday, 4 August 2013 02:21 (twelve years ago)

they are all good

Brian Eno's Mother (Latham Green), Sunday, 4 August 2013 03:05 (twelve years ago)

This is absolutely impossible. Just seing them all together is almost too much too take in. Best band ever.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 4 August 2013 09:01 (twelve years ago)

donimo

monotony, Sunday, 4 August 2013 10:51 (twelve years ago)

I remember Steve Sutherland's review of Blue Bell Knoll in MM (I think it was SS), quoting the tearteattearteartear bit of Ella Megalast. And that was my first Cocks LP, and an entry to a new world, so that gets the vote.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 4 August 2013 17:18 (twelve years ago)

Musette and Drums is one of my favourite album closers ever.

Kitchen Person, Sunday, 4 August 2013 18:31 (twelve years ago)

akm, Sunday, 4 August 2013 19:35 (twelve years ago)

I always pick Garlands-era Cocteaus unless the song in question is "Violaine"

THE WORINÐLVE (DJP), Sunday, 4 August 2013 20:37 (twelve years ago)

"Musette" for me (Head Over Heels is my favorite release), though "Because the Whirl-Jack" or "Watchlar" might take this for me were EP closer included.

Sanpaku, Monday, 5 August 2013 02:15 (twelve years ago)

i think their openers are much better. it's the first song of a cocteau twins album that creates the beautiful, otherwordly atmosphere, the last song is just some sort of fading out and getting back to reality, not something i like much concerning the cocteau twins. my fave closr would be victorialand's "the thinner the air". from the openers it is clearly the incredible life-affirming wonder that is "cherry-coloured funk" from "heaven or las vegas" in front of treasure's "ivo" and victorialand's "lazy calm". will somebdy do an openers poll?

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 5 August 2013 20:53 (twelve years ago)

"know who you are at every age" is another phantastic starter.

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 5 August 2013 20:55 (twelve years ago)

"Blood Bitch" is so so so so good

THE WORINÐLVE (DJP), Monday, 5 August 2013 20:58 (twelve years ago)

"blood bitch" is impressive but they still haven't found their sound. it's a great post-punk song on the verge of goth. but they got better and smoother later on. like a good bordeaux which is still closed in the beginning and evolves its full flavour 5-10 years later on.

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 5 August 2013 21:25 (twelve years ago)

I don't really have much use for traditionally celebrated Cocteaus until they hit Heaven or Las Vegas; the smoothness is a huge turn-off.

THE WORINÐLVE (DJP), Monday, 5 August 2013 21:31 (twelve years ago)

Is this thread DESIGNED to give me an anyeurysm!?

Lol Trayce.

May I Call You Jiggleee? (Leee), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 05:26 (twelve years ago)

Also, wry dark chuckle @ what Bimb's DN happens to be on this.

It is like ganging up on Enya (Trayce), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 06:30 (twelve years ago)

The whole of Garlands is otherworldly - they made more spectacular music but none more disturbing (except Lullabies which may be even better now that I think of it).
Spent a decade faintly embarrassed about my Cocteaus obsession after the Fontana albums, but the peak albums really were something special.

MatthewK, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 09:44 (twelve years ago)

Went with "Musette and Drums."

tubby permacrocked whorefucker (Lostandfound), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 01:43 (twelve years ago)

someone should take over for Le Bateau Ivre and do a Cocteau Twins poll that was cancelled this summer.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 01:50 (twelve years ago)

seekers who are looooooooooovers

erry red flag (f. hazel), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 02:15 (twelve years ago)

Anyway I have to vote for Musette and Drums. First track of theirs I ever heard, remains a favourite. That said, despite not being that much of a fan of M&K I do like "Seekers" too.

Love Garlands but dont view "Grail Overfloweth" as much of a spectacular closer as on the other albums. If they'd ended with "hearsay please" or "hazel" it might be a diff story.

It is like ganging up on Enya (Trayce), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 03:04 (twelve years ago)

i agree with Bimble.

maybe i should pick it up?

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 03:07 (twelve years ago)

This is totally between Frou Frou and Seekers Who Are Lovers. Still hard to believe that Seekers was the last thing they did.

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 04:32 (twelve years ago)

someone should take over for Le Bateau Ivre and do a Cocteau Twins poll that was cancelled this summer.

I really wanted this to happen too. I was thinking about doing it but I have no idea how to run these things or how much of my time it would take.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 04:52 (twelve years ago)

please, please, please do it. i can help you as i ran I feel so extraordinary somePoll's got a hold on me: NEW ORDER artist poll #37 (RESULTS thread)

i just don't feel qualified to run Cocteau Twins as i only know a few albums.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 05:55 (twelve years ago)

I do know and own everything they've done and can even sing along to most of Liz's sounds lol.
If you can guide me on how to run it, then I guess you can sign me up!

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 07:02 (twelve years ago)

you sign up here: Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

you will be replacing this: 35. Cocteau Twins - Le Bateau Ivre (cancelled)

happy that you are going to do this.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 07:05 (twelve years ago)

btw, you are not doing something that is unprecedented. we had the same issue with another one and Some Dude took over when to poll runner cancelled or went MIA.

27. The Neptunes - V79/some dude (finished)

Bee OK, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 07:09 (twelve years ago)

Would love for someone to take it over <3

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 10:29 (twelve years ago)

I signed up for it :-)

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:58 (twelve years ago)

Fab!

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 18:06 (twelve years ago)

yeah that should be a lot of fun.

i think it should go next, which would be in about two weeks.

Bee OK, Friday, 9 August 2013 02:30 (twelve years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 10 August 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Sunday, 11 August 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

usually found the 2nd to last track on Cocteau Twins albums to be the best (possible exceptions Musette, Cico Buff, My Truth)

Paul, Sunday, 11 August 2013 01:01 (twelve years ago)

maybe Feet-like Fins and The Hollow Men too, so praps that doesn't hold up. still: Garlands, My Love Paramour, Otterley, (Pale Clouded White), How To Bring A Blush..., A Kissed Out Red Floatboat, and Road River And Rail are all Top 10 or 20 Cocteau Twins songs for me.

Paul, Sunday, 11 August 2013 01:12 (twelve years ago)

RRR is definitely one of my favourites. From out of the Bayeux....

It is like ganging up on Enya (Trayce), Sunday, 11 August 2013 05:18 (twelve years ago)

Damn, now I am cranked for the CT track poll.

MatthewK, Sunday, 11 August 2013 11:41 (twelve years ago)

My Truth has to be one of the all-time worst song titles.

erry red flag (f. hazel), Sunday, 11 August 2013 19:07 (twelve years ago)

Four-Calender Café is their only album I don't find great, but I think "Pur" is amazing and deserved a vote. The competition was tough though.
