i thought limbo was good but it was more of the same and not that surprising. a good end to whatever era you'd call alien in a garbage dump to limbo.

anyway I retract my aoty statement. it's really good but i can't even stomach to listen to it a second time. it makes me physically nauseous and disoriented, like i have the flu. it's great but i don't know when i will want to hear it again. i used to listen to his music a lot more but now it just makes me queasy. but...that's not a knock on him or the quality of the music. it's just that upsetting

you are really selling me on this album

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 17:45 (eleven years ago)

Guys this is the most fun Copeland album yet, I should post my review

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 20:59 (eleven years ago)

For serious

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 20:59 (eleven years ago)

sounds like a big joke

i'd d/lded a promo copy b/c the blurb had made me intrigued, this thread pushed me into actually listening to it, i don't get it at all

lex pretend, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 21:10 (eleven years ago)

it was just annoying and boring

lex pretend, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 21:11 (eleven years ago)

did you like black dice lex?

ogmor, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 21:37 (eleven years ago)

hahah i never really listened to black dice much but i was like "isn't this what black dice sounds like"

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 22:31 (eleven years ago)

the only black dice i like is the luomo remix

lex pretend, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 22:39 (eleven years ago)

this is where i smh, kmt, & rmde in one fluid motion

ogmor, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 23:12 (eleven years ago)

i read a review in the wire that kind of slagged this off a little bit, while making me want to hear it quite a lot. i liked the last black dice album a lot.

Still haven't heard limbo, but I always felt like Hermaphrodite and Alien in a Garbage Dump were both more "the trippy poster hanging on a friend's wall at a neighborhood barbeque" than any "highbrow, art gallery inscrutability".

Fetchboy, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 00:51 (eleven years ago)

Those albums are really good, sure, but this one is looser and more fun

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 02:46 (eleven years ago)

alien and hermaphrodite are his best by far. strange days is up there too. for pumpkins fans, it's kind of like a 'pastichio medley' for copeland's world :)))

rgag ftw

IIIrd Datekeeper (contenderizer), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 03:23 (eleven years ago)

funk junkly like the last bd

IIIrd Datekeeper (contenderizer), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 03:23 (eleven years ago)

i have a couple really awesome 7"s (one of them is called PARTY and is particularly cool) but the lp from last year was disappointing... will check this out but not without trepidation

flopson, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 05:22 (eleven years ago)

Nick, those LPs def have their moments - gems are scattered though his whole solo career.

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 11:08 (eleven years ago)

one year passes...

new ep Ms Pretzel is his best since Limbo imo... still feel like he's not surprising as much anymore, kind of coasting on a lot of the same sounds and ideas

when is the new Jim O'Rourke album coming out (spazzmatazz), Thursday, 8 January 2015 01:03 (ten years ago)

ha, I just bought a few tracks from this a few days ago on itunes after stumbling on.

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 8 January 2015 01:06 (ten years ago)

of course my itunes GC was almost dead by then so i couldn't buy the whole thing.

yeah, i feel this, though. BUT. the thing about EC is that by and large (for me anyway) how his songs hits me totally depends on headspace. like mood rings. sometimes he's pedestrian, sometimes he's awe-inspiring, sometimes it feels like i'm high.

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 8 January 2015 01:07 (ten years ago)

eleven months pass...

joke in the hole remixes 12" very nice. as usual, panda bear makes a completely new song instead of remixing whatever he was assigned

flappy bird, Monday, 21 December 2015 22:11 (nine years ago)

six months pass...

New album, Black Bubblegum, is very good. I keep thinking "Cannibal World" is going to morph into Blur's "Chemical World".

Position Position, Tuesday, 12 July 2016 14:49 (eight years ago)

it's a slight, but fun listen. like on and fuck it up the best (the poppiest ones i guess). he sounds a bit like buzz osbourne singing on this

linee, Saturday, 16 July 2016 01:38 (eight years ago)

man I love alien in a garbage dump to bits but this new stuff is not my deal at all

The bald Phil Collins impersonator cash grab (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Saturday, 16 July 2016 02:10 (eight years ago)

Alien in a Garbage Dump is one of my favorite albums ever and this thing is blowing my mind. he started coasting with Joke in the Hole imo. Limbo was his last amazing album. Ms. Pretzel, Masterbater, and Jesus Freak were good but slight imo. This thing is a welcome change, a really sweet switch-up. Reminds me of Ariel Pink's lo-fi records.

flappy bird, Saturday, 16 July 2016 03:32 (eight years ago)

I had always admired his greasiness but this is low budget in a way that sounds like he threw it together in one night after he came home wasted

ogmor, Sunday, 17 July 2016 09:24 (eight years ago)

new one sounds like a shitty ween album

Immediate Follower (NA), Thursday, 28 July 2016 17:46 (eight years ago)

ween albums have better singing though

Immediate Follower (NA), Thursday, 28 July 2016 17:56 (eight years ago)
