get low > magic stick > crazy in love > rock with you > never leave you > pimp > in those jeans > where is the love > right there > unwell

i'm cool with all of these songs though

Attractive Humas 2013 (a not-necessarily WS thread) (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 August 2013 13:54 (twelve years ago)

voted for "Magic Stick."

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 8 August 2013 13:58 (twelve years ago)

there was such a crazy amount of 50 songs on the radio around this time, between all his own hits plus "magic stick" and "release n*ggas" ... all classic joints

Attractive Humas 2013 (a not-necessarily WS thread) (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:00 (twelve years ago)

"Get Low" is the only 10/10 classic to me out of these. gonna vote for "In Those Jeans" though because the almost mournful tone of "you wore these jeans, girl you wore these jeans and you made a thug wanna cry something terrible" is amazing.

some dude, Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:00 (twelve years ago)

Magic Stick
Get Low
Rock Wit U
In Those Jeans
Unwell

I've never been a "Crazy in Love" stan.

I get the chorus of "Unwell" stuck in my head all the time.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:01 (twelve years ago)

crazy in love is one of those songs that's obviously beautiful but did nothing for me

surm, Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:02 (twelve years ago)

i would find it a lot more pedestrian but jay's verse on that is really great imo

Attractive Humas 2013 (a not-necessarily WS thread) (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:03 (twelve years ago)

the rest of the song though sounds like people getting worked up about being enthusiastic

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:04 (twelve years ago)

embarrassed I didn't know the Chingy or Lumidee songs at all

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:05 (twelve years ago)

that lumidee is the third best of the diwali riddim american hits but still awesome, i think you'd like it a lot

Attractive Humas 2013 (a not-necessarily WS thread) (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:07 (twelve years ago)

balls was raving about that diwali comp on my FB page.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:09 (twelve years ago)

Lil Jon vs Lumidee IMO

it still surprises me how much I like "Unwell"

OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLY (DJP), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:09 (twelve years ago)

it was HISTORY when Matchbox 20 and w/e other white people were out then fell out of the top 10 btw: SHAKE YA TAILFEATHER MOST IMPORTANT SONG EVER

some dude, Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:11 (twelve years ago)

and ten years later, we keep getting closer and closer to an all-white top 10

some dude, Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:12 (twelve years ago)

haha I was trying to think of how this thing could go TOO FAR and basically it would involve J. Lo or Britney Spears getting caught in the crossfire of a shootout between Ja Rule and 50 Cent. Either that or Junior Senior's next album going to number one on the charts courtesy of a "Y.M.C.A." type novelty single.

staind in the place where you live (crüt), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:27 (twelve years ago)

I just remember when "Where is the Love" came out, I was kind of taken back by the idea of the Black Eyed Peas working with Justin Timberlake, when in the past they were doing stuff with people like Esthero and now they were having a big hit single that was on the radio.

Oh how times changed.

MarkoP, Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:38 (twelve years ago)

Get Low easy

Hooks on Phoenix worked for me (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:51 (twelve years ago)

"never leave you" with "get low" close behind. i am glad people aren't swarming to vote for "crazy in love" b/c that song seems way overrated to me.

dyl, Thursday, 8 August 2013 17:01 (twelve years ago)

"Crazy In Love" would be my #3, "Unwell" my #4

Ashanti is terrible, I still can't believe that we as a society allowed that to happen

OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLY (DJP), Thursday, 8 August 2013 17:16 (twelve years ago)

the same society that produced Black Eyed Peas.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 8 August 2013 17:17 (twelve years ago)

Who, even at their basest and most unforgivable, are better than Ashanti.

she gets a pass for "Happy."

lex pretend, Thursday, 8 August 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)

"Never Leave You" is one of my favorite songs ever, but "Magic Stick" came on the radio (during the old school lunch, which apparently now means 2000-2006 -- this is depressing as fuck) and it's like... 50 & Kim trading nasty sex raps over fake RZA beats is p much a perfect form of music.

Think I'm still gonna vote Lumidee on principle tho.

we run zings, zings don't run we (The Reverend), Thursday, 8 August 2013 19:29 (twelve years ago)

"magic stick" is amazing but it's like the 3rd or 4th best song on la bella mafia

lex pretend, Thursday, 8 August 2013 19:32 (twelve years ago)

I'LL TAKE YOU TO THE MAGIC STICK, I'LL LET YOU LICK THE CANDY SHOP

some dude, Thursday, 8 August 2013 19:32 (twelve years ago)

just looked at track listing, actually the 3rd after "thug luv" and "the jump off"

lex pretend, Thursday, 8 August 2013 19:33 (twelve years ago)

Actually, weird how both songs have entered my life the past two days. Was just on twitter discussing this track that samples the Lumidee:

lol it is so not better than Timbaland running on fumes

best summer ever

sup (billstevejim), Friday, 9 August 2013 06:41 (twelve years ago)

this is weird though... "unwell" might be my favorite out of these 10. i'm not sure how i feel about that.

sup (billstevejim), Friday, 9 August 2013 06:44 (twelve years ago)

voted lumidee. surprised myself

katherine, Friday, 9 August 2013 14:32 (twelve years ago)

Alfred, I just read your blog post about this and your comment about "Never Leave You" disappearing. Nope, I still hear it in the club from time to time, more often than that summer's other Diwali-based hits. I'm kinda surprised you don't like it too, it's basically the '03 equivalent of freestyle (weak vocals vs great tune and all).

I listened this morning and, yeah, I'm finally hearing what you guys are.

Yeah, now that I think of it, even at the time it took me a while to come around to it.

1. Get Low
2. Never Leave You
3. Where Is The Love
4. Crazy In Love

da croupier, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:23 (twelve years ago)

Baffling thing: the only ones of these I hear regularly anymore are "Crazy In Love" which basically never went away, and "Unwell." I was at a McDonalds and CiL was playing and I saw some five year olds singing along and realized they had the same relationship to it that I would have had to, like, "Stayin' Alive" - huge hits from years before I was born that kind of never stopped being in the musical landscape. Wonder if it sounds at all corny or dated or will ever signify "LOL 2003."

Wouldn't really change the channel on any of these except maybe the Peas.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:30 (twelve years ago)

i hated where is the love at the time (the video looking like a sports drink ad didn't help) but now i love it - angry (and relatively specific for a pop song) sniffles over bouncy strings and a "torn" interpolation.

da croupier, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:39 (twelve years ago)

recently listened to every BEP single in chronological order and I don't have a beef with any until "I'mma Be"

da croupier, Saturday, 10 August 2013 23:41 (twelve years ago)

"torn" interpolation?? ummm i mean i guess it is rhythmically similar if you squint your ears a little but...

dyl, Sunday, 11 August 2013 05:25 (twelve years ago)

damn it now i'm starting to notice the similarities. "torn" is ruined for me forever ;_;

dyl, Sunday, 11 August 2013 05:28 (twelve years ago)

Had to listen to about half of these just now to remember them. Will vote for "Crazy in Love" even though, yeah, its maybe a tad overrated.

"Unwell" and "Where Is The Love" are two of the least objectionable songs by two otherwise generally repulsive artists.

Those "Awww Baby"s are still annoying as shit.

the vineyards where the grapes of corporate rock are stored (cryptosicko), Monday, 12 August 2013 04:51 (twelve years ago)

Voting Lumidee because I'm a big fan of the diwali riddim. Even then, of all the different songs that have used it none has actually satisfied me 100%.

Moka, Monday, 12 August 2013 05:20 (twelve years ago)

ha, I just realized I've never actually heard this Matchbox 20 song before. I figured I'd at least pull it up and go, "oh yeah, that." turns out I wasn't missing anything.
