I've managed to never actually hear a Joanna Newsom song, whereas I used to share office space with a whole squad of Phish fans. I actively like Radiohead, and my mom likes Jackson Browne so he gets a pass. I've only ever heard one Jimmy Buffett song, but have heard dozens of Billy Joel songs, so clearly he wins, because every single one of them is terrible.

can't imagine anyone liking owl city more than jackson browne, esp on this board

question about joanna newsom: did you have to spend a lot of time with her music in order to like it, or did it "click" immediately? i like so many things about her -- including just the idea of a harpist being a semi-major singer-songwriter -- but i don't like her music.

The first side of Jackson Browne's Late For The Sky is one of the most intensely sad series of songs ever. At a glance stuff like Take It Easy seems pretty bland but there's just a huge underlying vein of utterly depressed intensity yo.

I wasn't blown away until I heard Ys. That album clicked on first listen. The first album was alright, but the songs were not as interesting as the voice.

i'll try listening to Ys again -- that's the only one i've listened to. she seems like a really chill person and i generally like idiosyncratic singing. also, i like stuff that unabashedly is what it is and doesn't try to pander to either the public or critics and i think newsom's music certainly fits this criterion.

so i am a supporter if not a fan.

also, who did the nominating for these polls?

Radiohead is only hated by jaded rock crits. The rest of the population don't really care about them.

I don't hate any of these. I like Radiohead and Newsom and as a Britisher the others just don't pop up often enough to really bother me at all. Even the Eagles tend to only ever come on in my partner's dad's car and he's a very sweet guy.

I used to hate the Eagles but now I think they're aiight. Radiohead certainly don't have any songs as good as "I Can't Tell You Why."

"Creep" is a great song. Better than "I Can't Tell You Why."

I can imagine Thom at the electric piano yowling "I Can't Tell You Why."

I think the only group I actually hate in here is Owl City. Almost everything else never pops in my radar. Must be an American thing Im looking at the other polls and I dont really recognizr half of the artists or I dont listen to them frequently.

ugh 'creep' is an awful song, give me 'c.r.e.e.p.' by the fall any day.

Where is the nomination thread? Very disappointed that my perhaps most hated of hated bands, Sublime, is not on here.

xp creep is my favorite radiohead song. i think that kind of song -- heartbreaking, seemingly off-kilter and indie but actually just an epic stadium jam that builds to a huge climax -- is what they do best.
