I'm taking off on Saturday to pick up my wife in Frankfurt, Germany. She's over there on business for an annual publishing conference, but we found out we had enough "miles" stored up on our collective cards (I really don't know how that stuff works) to score me a round-trip ticket. So, I'm going over to pick her up and then she and I are going to goto Munich and Berlin for the remainder of the week.
So,...any suggestions? I've been to Munich, but that was back in 1987 as a beer-crazed, Sisters-of-Mercy-obsessed twenty year old, so suffice to say I don't remember much of that trip. In Berlin, I'm most curious to see the Brandenburg Gate and maybe go on a pilgrimage to Hansa Studios (where several seminal albums were recorded by everyone from Celtic Frost, Marillion, Depeche Mode, the Cure -- but most notably Bowie, Iggy and U2....not to mention my beloved KILLING JOKE!) Beyond that, I'm in the dark -- any of you savvy, world-weary road-dogs familiar with cool places/cool disc shops/live music venues to check out in these two burgs?
If so....do tell!
Danke!

If you are into art, Alex you can see nice paintings of the Blauer Reiter (Franz Marc) in the Lenbachhaus at the Königsplatz which is equally well worth to be seen. A huge square with neoclassistic monumental buildings. I think the Nazis you used it for parades...
I am not an expert on Berlin and find the rebuilding especially in the Eastern part and the government district rather unsuccessful and too massive. Especially the chancellor's office and the Potsdam square dominated by DaimlerChrysler and Sony. The interesting parts of Berlin where there is some action are Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg. Nice pubs there as well.

Clubwise:try to check out the legendary Tresor before it closes permanently,it's not far from brandenburg tower,if you can't stand the techno in the basement there's always Globus, the houseclub on groundfloor level for smoother sounds
other clubs: Ostgut has good line-ups, Icon is a very small but enjoyable drum & bass club, sternradio also has international line-ups (right off the berlin alexanderplatz) and last but not least WMF where Jazzanova used to have a residence (but this club moves at lot, so i'm not sure they're still open and where they are)
