Robbie vs. Justin

Robbie Williams signed a 80 mil quid contract with EMI which includes stipulations that they're gonna try to break him in the U.S.

Justin Timerblake, when he's not doing Michael Jackson impressions, has said that he really likes Coldplay and Radiohead (and he's worked with the Neptunes).

Both have new albums coming out. Both could become the super mega massive pop stars of our time.

Who will win??

In the US? Justin, of course. Robbie's (cheeky) humour and persona won't work in the States.

On the other hand I think the hostility to teenpop from sections of the wider audience is much greater now in the States than it was here when Robbie crossed over from Take That. So that might be a risk for Justin.

In the US?

Wherever pop fans exist!

Robbie has a voice. Justin doesn't. Robbie has a sense of humor. Justin doesn't. Robbie has a personality. Justin doesn't. Justin desperately wants to be black. Robbie doesn't.

Robbie's over 30, Justin isn't.
Justin has hips, Robbie's are hidden.
Justin has a pube-head, Robbie doesn't.
oh god! who's single shall i buy? it's all so confusing!!!

Robbie is going dooooooooown.. big money usually spells big problems, and i don't think he'll pull off a nu-metal conversion, he's too english.. oh, and he's a twat ..

listen. think about this. robbie williams is to justin timberlake as the streets are to jay-z. the streets are gay and british and completely ridiculous to non-british people, justin timberlake is hot and sexy and tons of other stuff.

I think if Robbie Williams couldn't break the States with "Millenium", he's not going to come close to doing it anytime soon. I remember seeing him interviewed on Letterman (and musical guests never get interviewed) and Williams looked like he just didn't get it.

Vic Funk, Wednesday, 9 October 2002 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

they're aiming RW at the wrong demographic. if they broke him as "the next Tom Jones" he'd have it made.

jones (actual), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

no contest. "like i love you" is sick.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the neptunes are always the winners

bob zemko (bob), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

God, if only the world knew that their very future is being decided right here in our little thinktank. When the Great Cleaver of humanity comes down and divides us, what side will you be on? Robbie or Justin? The (shania) twain shall never meet...

andy, Wednesday, 9 October 2002 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, you don't like Justin because of the Michael Jackson connection! You'd vote for Robbie Williams over MJ, too! I happen to be addicted to Justin's voice. And personality. And cuteness. Robbie isn't cute. What the hell?

A.V. Alexandre (Keiko), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

here robbie, put on my jacket. and then?

brian badword (badwords), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

But hasn't Robbie just let his writing 'partner' walk off in a huff? I heard EMI wasn't too thrilled with that.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

justin's "personality" = dud

bob zemko (bob), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"Alex, you don't like Justin because of the Michael Jackson connection!"

Well, yes, there is that, but there's also the N'Synch connection, the TRL connection, the Britney Spears connection, the "blaccent" connection, etc. etc. etc.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)
