Who decided Applause was a summer jam?

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Monday, 19 August 2013 03:26 (twelve years ago)

yeah this is a weird divide of 'two songs that have been ubiquitous all summer and 2 songs that were just released and will prob be ubiquitous all autumn'

some dude, Monday, 19 August 2013 03:27 (twelve years ago)

anyway the answer is #beautiful

Blurred Lines-->Get Lucky-->Applause-->Roar

(though I've only heard the latter two once each so far)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

gaga can't even manage the biggest jam of the week right now, never mind a whole season

prolego, Thursday, 22 August 2013 00:03 (twelve years ago)

Think I've heard "We Can't Stop" and "Radioactive" more than the Gaga and Perry combined this Summer. Those are just too new. Voted Daft-Thicke-Perry-Gaga anyway.

thicke-daft-gaga-perry

i think fantasia's "without me" ended up being my summer jam

dyl, Thursday, 22 August 2013 15:51 (twelve years ago)

Yeah. R&B radio has played the hell out of it.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 August 2013 15:53 (twelve years ago)

and "Lose to Win" hasn't gone away either

J. Cole's "Power Trip" is the underrated summer jam of 2013. Solid single with ample replay value that sinks its way into your head even though there's nothing flashy about it

Evan R, Thursday, 22 August 2013 16:11 (twelve years ago)

agreed 100%

dyl, Thursday, 22 August 2013 17:54 (twelve years ago)

would have loved to have heard 'lose to win' on an irl regs

Why did you put 'roar and applause' in here? Billboard has a more honest ranking in here:

Also this poll could be interesting:

http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop-shop/1569319/poll-whats-the-best-song-of-the-summer-of-the-past-10-years

2013 is definitely Robin Thicke chart-wise.

Moka, Thursday, 22 August 2013 20:58 (twelve years ago)

i hate all of these

waterface down (jjjusten), Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:00 (twelve years ago)

No summer for you!

Moka, Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:04 (twelve years ago)

wow looking at that summer songs list really inspires some strong "music is dead" feelings in me

when did I become old

OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLY (DJP), Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:08 (twelve years ago)

fuck "song of the summer"

crüt, Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:10 (twelve years ago)

I mean I don't really expect mainstream America to embrace Disclosure and Rudimental but couldn't they throw Eve or Pet Shop Boys a bone? They were big here once.

OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLY (DJP), Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

ok i'm gonna listen to this katy perry song

crüt, Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

sounds like katy perry

Why did you put 'roar and applause' in here? Billboard has a more honest ranking in here:

I put "Roar" and "Applause" in there, and started the poll in general, because last week I was seeing Roar vs. Applause in the same way that earlier in the summer there had been Blurred Lines vs. Get Lucky and so decided to throw them all together.

cookin' with bad (Eazy), Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:12 (twelve years ago)

Mmm first time hearing 'roar' right now. It does sound like Katy Perry.

I honestly don't think any of those two will have the impact of 'get lucky' or 'blurred lines'. Sure, people will follow them by pure inertia, but in the end it's just the sort of song you'd expect from those two, no improvement or novelty. Hate them or not, Blurred Lines and Get Lucky came from a very different approach to pop music, they felt refreshening even if they're not exactly game changers. I'm sure Gaga and Perry will remain in the top 10 for a couple of months since there's no sign of menacing singles in the horizon, but if they had been released a couple of months earlier they would've been crushed.

Moka, Thursday, 22 August 2013 21:37 (twelve years ago)

fuck "song of the summer"

Makes me wonder what the "fuck song of the summer" is...
