lots of Spongehead, sax was an integral part of their sound so whacked out solos were plentiful e.g. http://youtu.be/_0quKPVJ9CA?t=2m12s

Is the sax solo that starts around 2:47 in this song atonal? I'd always vaguely thought of 'atonal' as 'out of tune', but now I've been reading the wikipedia page about it I'm not sure what counts.

fat mama kick I guess although I don't really 100% understand what atonality actually means

Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 22 August 2013 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

atonal = no discernible tune

basically think of it as sax used as sound effect rather than melodic instrument

OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLY (DJP), Thursday, 22 August 2013 23:00 (thirteen years ago)

Atonal = defying classification into any key or mode. Atonal can still be a tune!

The Scott walker track for this thread has gotta be the one on Climate of Hunter where a million overdubbed Evan Parkers make an insane tone cloud.

track 6

Charlie Slothrop (wins), Thursday, 22 August 2013 23:15 (thirteen years ago)

no discernible tonal center or key. not necessarily no discernible "tune"

I could play C G# A C# F E A#, and that would be a "tune" but I think it would still be atonal

two years pass...
