don't know too much about her. guess she comes from a modern classical/composed music background but her music is very electronic. she has two eps - black prince fury and jet black raider - and they're both fantastic. let's talk about her here.

"nautilus" was the big track on the first ep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vajhs2wBeCU

"orlok" is from the new ep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC2eae_0UAQ

i haven't liked anything as much as 'nautilus', that one is just so focused and amazing-sounding. the rest of the tracks give me the impression that she's not that into spending lots of time on sound design, it's more about the writing than cool/pretty/fresh sounds, but that's ok.

orlok is sounding pretty good to me today, all the metric modulation is very drummer-y (which was a big part of why i got so excited about 'nautilus' too). i should check out the rest.

just throwing this out, but i wonder if it's her background in composed music (or whatever you want to call it) that leads to the de-emphasis of sound design? i would imagine when you're composing, it's more about arranging the sounds you have than about modifying the sounds themselves. i wonder if she mainly uses presets and other people's sounds in these eps. anyways i tweeted about her and she responded nicely within the hour so that was nice too.

i want other people to listen to this. i already knew Jordan had heard it.

haha. i think you're right about presets and approaching electronic music as a modern classical ('new music'? idk) composer, i think i read an interview where she addressed that.

i was happy that she listened to/retweeted my 'nautilus' remix.

Saw her live, she was excellent. Haven't really kept up with her recorded output though, so can't contribute much to this thread.

Both EPs are good, and she was superb live, great visuals. Her sister (iirc) was live drawing on top of some of the visuals too the time we saw her.

This sounds exactly like The Chap: http://www.npr.org/2016/02/29/468278570/songs-we-love-anna-meredith-taken. I like The Chap but don't know how I feel about this yet. The video is cool though.

Oh man I've been looking forward to this album and I really like the string of techno-inflected EPs she released, but The Chap are for real the worst band of the last ten years so I hope this is an aberration.

The instrumental tracks are great, the few vocal tracks are OK but the vocals themselves are pretty noncommittal across the board.

Taken sounds like Nirvana's Lithium as performed by an am-dram society. The rest is great.

Honeyed Words is amazing.

I think the vocal tracks are fun.

I think this is ok. Mostly I just want more stuff like "Nautilus," which sounds really out of place with everything else here. Kind of surprised she included it. If anything the album suffers from being a bit too varied.

Listening now thanks to my gf recommending it. Sounds intriguing (rising to 'good').
